For this bike? It's carb rebuild time , then a seat, static time the spark, and park it for the winter.
There are only 2 projects left in the shop, The cammo sidecar, and I was thinking maybe it's time to freshen up the stock 80 650 I've been riding the wheels off of, it runs too good to be that beat looking. Maybe take it all apart, paint the frame,  paint  the engine, fine sand the tank and clearcoat it, rebuild the carbs and polish the shiny stuff. That sounds right, gives me time to grease the steering head and change the wheel bearings.

A  mounted cammo potato gun could be fun on the sidecar, I'll have to think about this idea a while longer.
Although , sometimes I do find myself snapping out of a day dream that involved an articulating frame and 4 tracks, 2 full size snowmobile in the rear and 2 smaller tracks in the front. Even a hydraulic all track  drive system , that would allow power to steering, without the extra belts or chains that I was thinking of once before. Even though the fluid drive would be slow, I would expect it could  do most anything but climb trees.    But after I snap out of it,  I 'm fully aware, and tell myself it was only momentary insanity that comes with getting older.
  Yeah , that's it , getting older.

It's a daydream so far, but one day, who knows, there could be a build thread on this idea.
I'm still trying to figure out the articulating motorcycle frame , need to find a way not to crush balls in the seat. ouch.
The rest of it sounds doable.

Got outta work early today, in the garage at 2:30 , I've been in carb mode all week and couldn't get to them, soaked/cleaned /blown out polished a little and cleaned them again  blown out, rebuild kits in , floats adjusted, and buttoned up by seven , installed on bike and happy now.  new cables (push /pull) and tach cable on order .
I'm thinking of pods again, but I'd rather do the stock box with a k&n  filter in it, I did't  jet for open header so either intake filter could be an option since I'll have to rejet at some point later.

Halfway? Looks great to me.  I hate turning on the heat too.   Temp here is perfect this week, neither heat or ac is needed.

It was cold this week didn't get out there until today for a little while.
Got some throttle cables from parts unlimited somehow, I usually get motion pro, but these came in and I put them on, they don't fit as nicely as the motion pro's cables. There's slack that I can't adjust out. only a little bit but ,I don't like it.
Also had new stock air filter . so I installed the factory air box and dropped in the filter. No pods on this one.
Attached the fuel lines and that should almost finish up the engine area , ordered vent  and overflow hose today.
Noticed that the center stand is rubbing the chain. Running a header, no buddy pegs or peg mounts, and the frame is fresh and I don't want to weld a stop on it.I like using the center stand. Has anyone figured out a simple solution for this?I have searched the forum search and found that others made brackets, don't want that.  Has anyone made a stop that goes up by the pivot point yet?

So I thought I would be parking this orange machine after the seat is made. Turns out my oldest daughter's favorite color is orange ( the things that Dad's don't know....) she dam near rolled the bike out to her van doing that Daffy Duck thing "Mine, mine ,All Mine!"
I was wondering what to get her for Christmas. But would I be a cheapass Dad if I kept it for myself?

Okay I thought about this " Give the bike to my daughter idea"......  it made my wife cry... My daughter is a wonderful person, but she has got to be one of the crappiest drivers I've ever seen. If she's that bad in a car ,I don't expect it would be long before I'd get a phone call if she got a bike. I don't want to outlive my kids so......She ain't gettin it.  So not only am I gonna be a cheap-ass Dad, I'll be a prick too. Fatherhood, it's really a wonderful  thing . It's great to watch her grow up, and knowing she'll still get a little pissy when I don't give her what she wants. I think it's a good decision.

Sound decision RB. I have 2 girls and if I had the same scenario I would choose as you have.
