problems with the locking gas lid on the K8
« on: February 26, 2008, 04:57:09 PM »
Okay, I was able to find a replacement gas cover for the '78 CB750K8 I have. I have installed the pin that the locking mechanism clicks into with a turn of the key.

The problem I am having is that it doesn't lock. The lid just rests flat. Is there some sort of fine adjustment of the clip?

Grrrr!!

What I think is the spring is not a conventional one. Is it the metal doodad that attaches at the hinge end of the cover? Or is there supposed to be one on the front end?

Pic please; maybe I am missing a component.

Yeah I have a picture.....

Note the red arrow pointing to the spring. They corrode and break.

So, is this spring still available NOS? If so, who sells them?

Doesn't the 78 K have the tank door like the 78F 750?

Yup that is it. If it is not latching it is 3 things.
1: the part the key goes in is not turning all the way to catch.
2: the part the key goes in is too worn down to catch.
3: the metal clip that catches is gone or damaged.

have to learn how to post pics,i will soon, the whole lid got chromed ,they gave me back a mirror ;D ,also ordered an original black  69 450/bomber honda eagle emblem to put in middle of the chromed lid,,looks awesome, the emblem is round with only an eagle ,no 450 on it,.cost for the plating was 45.00 not bad considering there is alot of buffing/preparation work before the plating process,
