Hmmmmm i wonder if this is worth it...
« on: February 27, 2008, 11:20:49 AM »
http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-motorcycles-1979-GL-1100-Goldwing-parts-bike-600-obo-W0QQAdIdZ36170026

Never thought i would see the day i would be looking at a Goldwing but then again Im starting to come around to the idea of having a bike that i could ride most of the year and have less of a reliance on cages....by all means i plan on continuing with my current builds but im considering this thing partly because of its price and partly because it looks like it would take very little to return to the street...only thing it means to me really if i were to get it is that i would not be using the Vetter fairing i may be able to get on the GS1100..it would be used on this instead. And i would probably just fit the GS with a windshield of some sort...basicly giving me two touring style machines...

Heres a pic of it...as said i think it will be easy to save however...it all depends on the email reply i get from the owner...

Hey Chris, looks like it has possibilities. Do ya know about the carbs, exhaust and whatever that might be off of the bike? Talk to kghost, he's a Wing man and not sure who else is. Check here: http://www.nakedgoldwings.com/forum/

just now noticed the missing parts..good eye bill...hmmmm this may not be worth pursuing after all...wish i knew if the engine turned over at the very least...the carbs not so worried about since i just found the manifolds to convert it to webers...so thats a lesser concern...hmmmm should email him back to see if he has the parts that are off of it...

Well, if he has the parts and the motor will turn over with compression too. If the price isn't too much (don't have a clue what it's worth myself) he has enough to put it back together again, might be worth it. Wonder why it's down? Oh, and a clear title of course.

Possibly because he let it sit outside without the carbs on it and water filled the cylinders and rusted them solid? Hell, I've got a complete 1980 wing with a froze motor i'll sell you for $600.

With it listed as a "parts bike", usually means no title. I would be interested as to why it became a "parts bike" myself.

No Way - I can put you in touch with a friend that has a complete bike, nos exhaust, new panels - tons of new stuff all for $1,000. I thought about it - seriously. It's very nice and complete. South Carolina.

The one downside is my location...im up in canada eh? lol And upon looking closer at the pic..it appears theres white rags in the carb holes...not snow..which makes sense since it appears the tarp was over the bike prior to the pic being taken.

The owner seems fairly forthcomming with info on this thing...which is a major plus in this bikes favor. Hes gonna try to get more pics of the bike for me this afternoon according to his most recent email. It wont matter to me if i simply have to take the heads and cyls off and have them honed and/or over bored to restore the top end. Already located intakes to convert the bike to downdraft weber carbs along with new exhaust headers. Guess im kinda dumping extreme long distance riding out in favor of having fun with it in the city as well..with those mods in mind i may forget the idea of installing the vetter on it and just go with a simple windscreen on it instead and go back to the idea of using the Vetter on the GS1100..

I admire your willingness to dig into the top end of this bike but I feel I have to warn you that the cylinders don't come off of the block. The block splits vertically lengthwise at the crankshaft and each half of the block has 2 cylinders. The engine does come out fairly easily though, one section of the frame unbolts and then the engine swivels out on a transmission jack or similar. They are good bikes when running right, I've driven one for the last 2 years as my long distance bike and it rides like a Cadillac.

Just to clarify since i was kinda vague...It is not me that may have cancer it is my mother...i have finally come to terms with the fact that my father passed away nearly 7 years ago now there is this new threat of possibly loosing her as well..hence why i was extremely upset.
