Actually it was Hondaman that called it a mold mate, but I understand what you mean.

I'd thought about getting a local foundry to cast some K sidecovers from aluminum a few years ago, but never got around to it. I hope Mark gets some cast, I'd love a (highly polished, or even chromed) pair! Cheers, Terry.

836cc.. is that really aluminum or just painted?

For you guys that want to cast them, if you want to be able to polish them, it will be very difficult & costly.

probably wouldnt be too hard to fab up from some 2 mm ali, just have to wait on my ones to arrive to make up some templates

I found them in an old vintage motorcycle shop and they were hanging up on the wall.
They look like they are cast aluminum, then polished for that nice shine.
It's almost impossible to find the left side covers as they all fell off and were demolished back in the day!

If that’s the look you want just chrome plate a set of plastic ones. It would be lighter and look similar.

I have several vacuum forming machines and could easily reproduce side covers. The problem is the pins, they would have to be made and added separately.

I've seen the cheap vac formed covers with screw in metal pins, but didn't like them. I could mold them thicker so they don't feel cheap, but its the pins that are a problem. Its possible to resin cast the pins and glue them on, but then the cost gets up there. I could resin cast the whole cover with pins, but still expensive and its hard to find a durable casting resin.

There's just not enough volume to justify injection molded tooling. I'm surprised Airtech doesn't make fiberglass repro's

Just so I have an idea, what would be a fair price for good reproduction covers?

I don't know what's "fair", but I paid about $200 to get a set of hand-laid, 1/4" thick fiberglass repros from AUS...

I bought a pair of injection molded plastic K0 covers from LPM in Britain, absolutely beautiful copies that look a lot more durable than OEM, and I think they were 28 British Pounds each, so about 50-odd US dollars, or say, $55.00 Australian, and airmail for the pair was only 25 US dollars, so all in all, a very good price. Well there you go, exactly what I was suggesting. I believe those are resin cast from liguid Polyurethane, not injection molded from thermoplastic like the stock covers. I'm not saying that's bad, but it is a bit deceptive. Should be just fine, and a fair price too.

I believe I will use those for the Hondaman Specials! All 3 of them on order now...I get the first skeleton on Tuesday, a K2 from a local boneyard.

I can't get past the ebay store,.. can you give a link to his website? Its called RIM (reaction injection molding) not the same as traditional injection molding that uses plastic pellets and high pressure. It doesn't matter though, its all good, they look great and are probably much more durable. I want some..

I'm glad someone is stepping up to fill the need. I wish we could find decent replica seat covers now.

Here's a real nice set of 77-78 750F sidecovers on ebay. Auction just ended at $288
