interesting how each has their own favorite. Mine are the '70-'75, but I like em all.
The SD 455s are the ultimate. Heff, I had a '79 bird just like yours. Nobody could razz me
about it tho, it had a built 455
i grew up w/ the bandit car so, those are pretty much it for me.
my first car was an 81 grand prix with a 79 6.6 TA engine stuffed in... so, if you mush all my cars together i've had a TA... minus the giant bird and t-tops
yes, my first ticket was, indeed, above 100mph
something cool about that gold 80 firebird in the pic... it was the "first" D.A.R.E. car in Kansas. The ex-officer and his son that i bought it from told me the story of how the guy was trying to get the DARE program up and running in that state. They weren't confiscating the cars and using them yet so this officer, the one driving around to all the kids and speaking, used this car to "show the kids what they could have if they didn't do drugs"
of course, he had to make it a bit cooler so he put the big fat tires on the back, which in turn called for the air suspension to lift it up in the rear or else the fenders would rub. it was fun going to the gas station and "jacking up" the car w/ the air hose
right before i moved to phoenix, i was having a new tranny installed... it was sitting at their shop and was broken into. instead of stealing the stereo, they ripped it out of the dash along w/ the lower part of the soft dash these cars come with. if you know these cars, dashes are the holy grail. never found a replacement
