Replacing Camchain Tensioner Gasket
« on: August 06, 2005, 01:38:45 PM »
I think I know the answer to this question, but wanted to be positive.  If I remove the three bolts holding the camchain tensioner in place, am I in danger of anything falling into the engine, or can I remove it as a unit (w/out loosening the tensioner first), replace the gasket, and then bolt the whole assembly back into place?  Of course, when I am done, I will re-tension the chain, but I just want to be sure that I can take the tensioner off as a unit without losing any parts in the engine.  Thanks!

If you're talking about the 750, yes you can. Just don't turn the engine while it's out.  I'd suggest disassembling the tensioner and cleaning it all out, light grease and reassemble while it's off the bike.

I omitted the model of the bike; yes, it is a 1972 CB750K2 --I will go ahead and take care of this tomorrow.  Once it is back together, I assume I just have to turn the engine to the correct point and adjust the tensioner as I normally would.  Is this correct?  Having blown an engine on a CB450 due to the "world's longest camchain" these things always make me especially nervous.  Thanks!
