rearsets and shifting problems?
« on: March 02, 2008, 03:54:00 PM »
I seem to be having trouble shifting especially into 4th and 5th on my '76 750k with some suzuki gixer rearsets. My theory is the spring that returns the shift mechanism (on the bike not the rearsets) is not strong enough to bring it back (if that makes sense). The tranny would go through all gears before I put the engine back into the frame. Anyone else ever have the same problem or any ideas? I tried doing a search but mutiple words seem to pull up everything under the sun.

Take off the transmission cover and see if the spring has fallen off..
If it's still there and you think it is too SOFT or weak, then replace it with a stronger spring.... see if the problem persists...

do you have an adjuster nut on the shift rod on the GSXR shifter. You might need to adjust that as well.
I had to adjust mine once or twice to get it right.
Good luck.

yeah there is a little bit of adjustment on the rod, and I need to pull off the cover but the weather looks pretty crappy here for the next couple of days so I won't get to it for awhile  :(
