K0 Ignition Switch
« on: March 03, 2008, 08:41:51 AM »
I have a 12/69 built K0 that has the ignition switch hard wired into the wiring harness. Yet I see "sandcast" ignition switches on Ebay with brown connectors on them same as the other 750 I have. When did this change? Or do have the incorrect harness on this bike?
Thanks,
Cliff.

Not sure, but I can tell you that my diecast, built 02/70, has the round brown connector on the ignition switch.

Have you checked for evidence of splices?

Is your switch still a "recessed" type, that is the key has a black plastic disc that sinks into the switch when you turn it.  if not, then what probably happened is someone got a later switch with a square connector and spliced it into the harness, which should have a round connector.  Square peg in a round hole...

I have a 12/69 build K0.  My ignition switch has the standard brown connector.  It also has the recessed keyhole which I think is what everyone refers to as sandcast.  If yours doesn't have that I would guess someone has spliced a replacement into the harness.

No Honda SOHC has a hard wired switch it must be a "mod"
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Is it evident that it has been spliced, sounds like a splice.

Thanks guys! Lots of strange things about this bike but it does have the correct carbs, side panels, airbox and ducktail seat (in poor condition).
Cheers,
Cliff.
