78 pumper carbs
« on: August 21, 2008, 02:36:58 PM »
I just finished changing the mainjets on my CB 78 F2. (one of the po's have installed 122,5 mains in a stock bike.) and while changing the jets i decided to clean the carbs. while reasembling them, i noticed that one of the idle mix screws can be turned inn 1/4 turn more than the other 3. is this a indication of that the seat of the idle jet might be damaged? before the jet change the idle was steady at about 1000 rpm.

How are you judging that the one screw turns in farther than the others??  The direction that the idle screw head is pointing when the screws are turned all the way is not a reliable indicator of how far in the screw is turned.  If you screw all the screws in till they seat, you should be able to see the tip of the needle poking into the bottom of the carb bore on the engine side of the carbs. Use this is as the guide to determine if one screw is seating in too far;  if one tip is sticking up farther than the others, then you may have a problem.
