Stainless brake lines....check these out.
« on: March 04, 2008, 06:36:53 AM »
Z1 has added stainless brake lines & fittings etc.  Seems like a good deal
Check 'em out:  http://www.z1enterprises.com/catalog.aspx?pid=MFGO0

Question 1:  Any body know what size the banjo bolts need to be at
               1. the master cylinder  -  10mm x 1.25  or  10mm  x 1.00
               2. the caliper - 10mm x 1.25 or 10mm x 1.00
               3. the brake light switch - 10mm x 1.25 or 10mm x 1.0
               4. at the hard line into the caliper.

Question 2. Is it necessary to use the rigid/hard line leading into the caliper, or can
you just get the stainless hose a bit longer and eliminate that connection?
It it more of a safety issue (not getting tangled in the wheel spokes?

Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

it is certainly possible to go from the master to the claiper. You will loose the brake light sending unit unles you are using a more modern mc with the sender built in.

Actually one of the places I looked has banjo bolts with the brake light switch built in.  So you replace the banjo bolt at the MC with this and it has 2 wires coming out.  Actually here is the site.  The bolts on the bottom right with the wire coming off are the switches.

All of the SOHC 750s use a 10mm x 1.25 banjo bolt.  As 71cb750 stated, you may go from the master directly to the caliper, but need the brake switch.  A newer m/c will have the switch built in, or if you keep your current m/c, you can get a banjo bolt with the switch built in.

the point of the ss line is to reduce the sponginess of the lever. If you get stanless to the hard line, you cant do much better than that. Is there a fitting to go from the stainless to the metal line?

I'd like to know what the specs are for that connection, too.  I've seen ss brakeline kits on ebay that connected to the hardline, but didnt like the style of the hoses themselves.  I'd like to run straight from the master cylinder (with a banjo-bold brake switch) to the hardline.

Figuring out what that specific connection is called, and what size it is, is one of the little things I have on my "list of things to follow up on" that I have not yet gotten to lol.

I've been looking at the same items on Z1 myself. I just ordered a new M/C with the sensor built in, so I was hoping to run a SS line directly into the caliper. Any thoughts on how to make the connection without the steel brake line? I looked at it for a while and it doesn't seem as though you could put a banjo bolt onto it, it's too small a diameter hole. Any thoughts on what kind of hardware you would need?

Helo check out this topic.  It has all the info about running straight from the m/c to the caliper.

Talk to Craig at HELUSA. I just got a set of SS hoses from them that work great. I told him that I wanted to get rid of the hard line but keep the switch and he knew exactly what I was talking about. You can even choose from different colors. Look around, lots of people use them. ;)

I sent Craig an email and got beck an automated response stating that he's swamped with orders right now, but that he will respond to each message and request he gets.

Hope he gets to it before i buy my ss lines from somewhere else...

Hey, thanks Cbass - after looking on the post you mentioned I realized that it was a 10mm x 1.25 fitting on the caliper. When I was inspecting it on my bike, it seemed to be smaller, but once I re-examined it, voila.

Z1 sells the fitting (Brake Hose 10MM X 1.25 MALE TO MALE ADAPT TU03-6239>> http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=3349) that the guys on the other post were describing.

It looks like it should provide a nice clean install, eliminating the need for either a banjo bolt or the metal brake like. I'll be placing an order soon as I get my paycheck this week, I'll be sure to let you all know how it turns out, since there seems to be a good deal of interest in the Z1 'build your own SS brake line for cheaper than dirt'. I just guessed all my hose length needs (will actually measure before I order) and my total before shipping was only $72 for all the hardware needed to replace the front and rear lines on my 750F1 (single front/rear rotor).

Yup, run a 10 x 1.25  to AN 3 or AN 4 fitting on both master and caliper. Then measure bike on center stand without weight on front wheel, pay attention to routing and attach  points, give it a slight slack.(for single disc)

Then simply make up the line yourself, or order the length you need.

Somtimes I would drill the stem nut and run thru the stem, works great on dual disc.

Sorry to revive this thread, but am I understanding correctly that you can eliminate the banjo bolts on both the MC and caliper using the Goodridge lines available from Z1?

And this part --> http://www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=3349

screws directly into the caliper?

Thanks!
