I don't want to be the wet blanket, but here goes...

I've had some trouble in the past keeping the old girl oil tight.  And I'm guessing other 30-some year olds might have similar issues.  The Point might not allow those bikes on.

Tires.  Between the lack of V rated tires and the yokels that try to wedge the biggest tire on the stock rims, there will be bikes sliding out from under riders left and right.

But other than that, it's a great idea.  The old girl is currently oil tight, and has V rated shoes.  The Point is just over an hour away.  We could do it the same day that a local shop does it.  It would be cheaper that way, but we would have to fight for road with the new bike crowd.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

Damn guys, I fell out of my chair I was leaning so hard  :o

Anyone know what bike that was?  I kept trying to grab a higher gear. Thats about what my bike sounded like when I missed 2nd on a power shift and blew it up. And that big cloud of smoke also reminded me of that valve letting go 32 years ago this week. Thats some serious rpms.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Would they mind if I just kind of "noodle' around the track ? Probably.
I wouldn't want a Supermono coming up on me at
180 though !
Great video !

whatever it was, he was past it... i heard the limiter repeatedly.
should be somewhere around 13-15
he should have been grabbing a bigger gear, engine's not making peak power at redline i bet.

If it's not a very long straightaway the time wasted in the upshift/downshift makes it not worth it.

My mate's 2005 600 Gixxer revs to 17k and is still making scary power at 16K :o :o

Apparently somewhere just above 17k Heff, never been anywhere near it myself, I'm not used to revving things much above 10K you see ;D

In fact it wasn't until my fourth or fifth time of riding it that I 'got' what all the fuss was about with modern 600s ::
Below 13k, it's merely very quick, it's only once you approach and cross 14K that it enters :o :o :o territory

now see... my point is this...

17+ THOUSAND RPM and repeated rev limiter hits on the vid.  there is no need for revving to the stratosphere.  bike just doesn't make the good power or hold together well at those RPMs.  there is a redline and limiter for a reason and its not to see how many times you can hit it.

and, i don't really choke down the "not enough time to shift" argument.  i can shift in about .01 seconds and if he can't, he should be in a better gear at the beginning of the straight.  that .01 seconds will damn sure get me down into more usable RPMs and the power to overcome that .01 second detriment.

please don't take this as i'm bashing on the guy... he looks like a great racer.  i also know that in the heat of the moment... rev limiters turn into shift lights  :D
