Need help again fuel routing 1973 500 cb4
« on: May 22, 2006, 09:57:54 AM »
Ok I am lost the guy I bought it from (my brother no point asking him) took it apart & put it back together. Not a major tear down but took of tubes & striped screws minor stuff. My fuel return lines are off & shooting fuel out. I am not sure the fuel delivery lines are routed to the proper nipples it doesent apear so in the manual it starts tho so I imagine they are. I am using a Clymer repair manual dont know if it is considered good but in this case it is usless.  Does the 2 nipples in the center of the 4 carbs pointing to the rear act as a return or delivery? Do the 2 nipples one pointing left & the other right located on either side of the 2 middle carbs act as return or delivery?  Hope this isnt to jumbled to understand I dont want to take it to the shop for something so simple just need direction.                                                                                                                   ;D  ???

There are fuel "T" fittings between 1&2 and 3&4 mounted on  O Rings that allow them to swivel somewhat.  Swivel them forward and route your fuel lines to those through the holes in the big mounting plate common to all the carbs.  Each line goes to a nipple on the fuel petcock.

There are no "return" lines on this model.  There are bowl vent lines (2). These have smaller tubing the routes up back and down to just behind the engine case in front of the rear tire.
There are two short interlinking vent line tubes between 1&2 and 3&4 carbs as well.

There are also 4 bowl overflow lines at the bottom of each carb. These tubes route to the same point the vent lines do.

Fuel lines are shown on page 63 of the Honda shop manual. And, the "T" pipes are shown on page 62.

Thanks Twotired I am still a little confused. Here are all the tubes I have 4 running off the very bottom of each carb they are the ones spitting fuel, 2 running off the side of carb 2&3 to the fuel tank then I have 2 nipples pointing to the back of the bike looking for a home. The Honda shop manual you have can you tell me were to get it I think it would help better than mine. Thanks

4 tubes comming from the base of the bowls are the overflows fed from a raised tube in the bowl itself, If these are leaking either your float heights are set wrong alowing too much fuel into the bowl before shutting off the needle valve, or all 4 floats are stuck down, not shutting off fuel or the O-rings around the needle valve housing are not sealing allowing fuel to pass regardless of the needle valves being shut off.

Next: there is a tube connected to a nipple that is part of a "T". The sides are pressed into the sides of 1/2 and 3/4 sealed with O-rings and the stems of this tee 1/2 and 3/4 are fed from the tank.

rubber tube about <1/4" connecting carb 1 to 2 and 3 to 4 then inner side of 2 and 3 should have right angled nipples facing upwards? are breather vents and can either be pipes further up or just left to breathe as they are.

I think... ;D

Sorry for the delay, I had to go to work.

You can download a manual from:
http://www.honda4fun.com/man_officina/man_officina.html

Or, you can post pics of your carbs and we can tell you what is missing.

Cheers,
