lost my keys...
« on: May 22, 2006, 02:23:01 AM »
hey guys,

i lost my keys today and i'm trying to decide what to do.  i have a 1976 cb 550 f with the ignition switch on the bars behind the headlight (i don't think this is how it came stock, but i'm not sure) and the key also is for my seatlock.

i'm wondering if you guys can give me advice on where to find the same ignition switch w/ seatlock or am i gonna have to get a different kind?  is it possible to have a locksmith make another key from my ignition?

thanks,

jason

Look in the old posts; with the number stamped on the switch you can buy replacement keys.

Try Hondakeys.com.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Some ignition barrels have the key code stamped into the side of them... if you can quickly remove the ignition barrel or seatlock mechanism, you  may just find the code stamped on one of these.. if so go to the local locksmith with the seat lock or ignition, and if they are any good, they should have a computer program that will match the code to your key style...also be able to re-key the lock if necessary to make a new code...

HINT - tape (double sided) a spare key inside your headlight bucket (down the bottom so it won't fall out) - then you only need a screwdriver to get going again.. :)

Somebody is selling spare keys on EBay under 750. Apparently all you need is the code off the switch.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

There are a bunch of sources for keys in the FAQs:

I'll bet that you drive past a competent locksmith everyday. They are often stuck off the the corner of a parking lot where you don't notice them in a little 10x10 booth. I've had keys made for $12 a pair almost in sight of the house. $10 for the first one and $2 for a duplicate. Done dozens,

The best old bikes come w/out keys, papers or operater manuals ;D

I just got a set of two on eBay -

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4642514724

but www.hondakeys.com looks like the same seller.

BTW: Can you post a pic of your ignition switch mount??? I'd like to move mine up to the handlebar/light bridge...I have an idea of the mount sold back in the '70's, but a pic is worth a hundred words...   ;D
