76' F code seats ?
« on: October 01, 2008, 01:15:19 PM »
Ok so im building an F code frame up for my project. I have a custom cafe seat but it wasnt made for this bike and im worried its going to take alot to make it fit and look good. What other good options are there for a seat for an F code bike ? Thanks for any help.

It depends on what you want mate.
Anything can be made to fit if you have the know-how.
Do you want to be able to lift it like the original, or will it be a fixed mount?
Whats the problem with the fit?
What are your hands on skills like?
Cheers

Well i have a small amount of fabrication knowledge, enough to make brackets for the current fiberglass seat i have. I was curious what options i might have if i were to use the factory hinges and seat lock. How important is it to be able to get under that seat quickly ?

Depends on what you've got under there.  ;D

Seriously, if you have all your electronics and what not under the seat, you might want them to be accesible on the roadside in case of a break down (or blown fuse or what-not). Having to haul out a tool kit just change a fuse is a pain in the rear.

As far as mounting the seat, the frame rails are pretty much the same between the F's and K's. The only real difference is that the F's had that bigg 'ole tool box in the back where the K's justr had a fender. You can just put a K fender on an F, or a the F tool box on the K.

For my F1 that I cafe'd out, I built up a "cafe" seat out of the stock seat pan. basically just molded a fiberglass hump over the back section and cut down the foam on the front. Came out lookin't pretty cool. I'll try to think to post a picture of it when I get home.

Old one on EBay that ending soon. Cheap. No bids. Remember me if you get it. I need the blue trim pieces on each side if they are in good shape.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Not the best picture of the seat, but again, it's off of a stock seat pan:
