Fairly High Dollar!

          This nice looking 69' SL350K0 sold on ebay recently, for $6000!
     If I had it, it probably wouldn't have brought as much. ::)

I just put this one on feebay, I probably won't get that much either. :'(
There are old bikers and there are bold bikers but there are very few old, bold bikers.

         Hey Aaron, that sure is a mighty fine looking Enduro you've got there. I was stationed in Japan, when the DT1 came out and took one for a test drive and was very impressed. Just couldn't come up with the bucks to get it. :(  Good luck with your listing! ;)

Yeah, it's in good shape for unrestored. I'll be glad if I get $1500 for it, but you never know what may happen on feebay. I got it last fall in non-running, dirty condition and the first time I heard it run was this afternoon. She purrs like a kitten and does a mean burnout if I hold the front brake. I'll bet it's pretty snappy in the dirt.

          Seems to me like whoever gets it, should be very happy with their purchase. Looks like you did a fine job on that one. That would be great for plunking around on, off road and doing a little round townstuff with. What it's built for, it'll do quite well.

That is a DT3, the first year for torque induction (reeds). I know because my Dad bought me my first one when I was 16. I bought my 2nd/current 2,200 mile examples several years ago and had it shipped from Oregon to South Carolina. The 1973's all kind of had the same stripe scheme - street and dirt. The TX650's have the "c" striping.

Oh, they are gutless. I think 24 horsepower. Certainly nothing compared to today.

     Hey there Gordon, yes the SL350 IS heavy for a "Dirt Bike", but I don't compare IT to something like a DT, TS or anything like those bikes. I had a 71' SL350K1 some years back and had a good time with it off in the woods and fields though. I'm not all that up on the different years of the DT's. I do know the DT1, as I took a new one for a test spin then they came out. I have a 78' DT250E, 75' DT400B and 75' MX400B "Basket Cases" that picked up on several years ago with thoughts of bringing some of them to life.

            That DT1 that I checked out, was quite impressive at the time (1969). I road it through the streets of Misawa, Japan and there were a lot of potholes that the DT1 seemed to smooth out somewhat. Several of the guys on the AFB, bought them and raced them, even though the local Japanese racers used smaller bikes and just ran theirs wide open throttle! ;D

Oh, it will wheelie fine. I ran a monster Baron 4.60x18 knobby on the back of mine and it would plow a trench whenever I wanted. I love them - put 28,000 miles on my first one. When I ride a late model 250 - there is just day and night differences. You must show respect for the newer, water-cooled 250's and their near 50 horses.

They were probably the best on/off road bikes you could buy. I've got several scramblers and they are jokes. The DT series could handle some major mud, jump hills and terraces, plus had godd ground clearnce - all the while had turn signals, mirrors, and would ride 2-up. As said, I really enjoyed mine. I have a CL175 and an Avenger SS 350cc - neither one is anywhere near as capable as the little Yamaha off-road. The little Avenger will almost do battle with the new 250's power wise though. That little 350 makes 40+ horsepower as is a wheelie machine.

          Yeah, those Kawasakis rotary valve twins were and still seem to be a force to be reckoned with, from what I can see. I DID pick up on a wrecked 350 Samuri in Japan that I was going to build it with the rolling frame of a Yamaha Twin back in 68-69', but I was in the USAF and I got my orders to return to the states. :( Too bad, I had plans to take out a Suzuki X-6 Hustler with that "Hybrid"! ;)

Bill, when you head this way later this year for a Smokey Mountain holiday as we've talked, - you've got an open invitation to ride anything you want. There are only 2 off the list. The purple H2 and the Black Bomber - those probably will never see gasoline.

If you'll put new batteries in that pacemaker, I'll put you on the green H2 dragger - in the mountains :)

I just added the KZ900 to the stack - I've been a whole 54 miles on it so far, just finshing it up this weekend.

You have a sweet bike collection for sure! I can only imagine the countless hours spent cleaning and polishing and fixing and riding. I sure wish spring would hurry up and get here. :'(

       Funny thing about the way bikes sell on ebay. Some sell for more than others do and with no real understanding why. Now, this one sold for $6000

           


        While another one, and I can't remember how much (or if it even sold) it went for (But seems like the blue one went for more)

         Morning Gordon. I hear what you are about the finish on the blue one and the tool bag on the red one, but the steering damper (stabilizer) is a stock item on the K0. Don't remember about the K1 or K2. I wish I could remember the deal on the red one. The red SL350K0 listing had lots of pictures in it and I loaded them ALL on Flickr, for reference, to use as I get to do work on th one I have.

         I do see what you are talking about on the fork legs and the front hub. Rear hub is probably like that too! Some attention to those areas and leaving the tool bag of could have helped. I wish I had keep those other pictures of the Blue one, like I did the Red one.
I've never made an attempt to do a "Primo" restoration though and don't pick up on details like you do (with your experience on the subject),  but I'm getting there. ;)

I wonder how much it has to do with the actual picture taking? The red one doesn't look a whole lot worse than the blue one to me but the red one does look like a poor photograph. Patchy shade offset by a sunny day and a cluttered background. The blue one was photographed on a cloudy day which actually enhances the look of blue paint and flattens the background so your eye isn't drawn away from the bike to the background.

Maybe I'm whacked but I actually like the red one better. Blue is not my color. :P

          Quality shots do make a difference, I'm sure. But, Gordon makes some valid points about the detailing of the red SL. Sure wish I could remember the results of that listing. :-\  Red or Blue, different folks have different preferences. Too bad I can't find a photo of a GOLD one (that color was also offered on the K0). ;)
