Routing of the fuel line.
« on: March 06, 2008, 10:49:04 AM »
Well I got some fuel line and got it put on but when I got the bike it had no fuel line on it and I do not kno exactly how to the best way to run it is.  you can see in the picture where the petcock is and there is only about 6 inches from petcock to carb inlet.  I ran a piece of hose down from the petcock under the carbs and back around but I didnt think that would be the best way because it would cause the same effect as say a toilet bowl drain or sink drain.  But with the tank being above the carb inlet i thought it may be alright.  I tried searching and didnt really find anything and looked at some pics and couldnt really see anything.

Thanks
Jay

Oops.  The line goes between the the carb bowls and then back up and around the link set and into the carb

No, you need to run the line so their is a constant fall, like a drain pipe.  The tank gravity feeds, and when the tank level gets low, head pressure is very small, so much so that is won't move bubbles that get into the line (like from the float valves), and that leads to fuel starvation.
A loop like what you depict, means the fuel has to be pushed up the tube to the carbs.  It will work ok when the tank is full.  And, no so good when it is less than one third.
Also remember there is no cross feed to get fuel over hump in the tank floor.  Fuel on the far side of the petcock cannot provide any head pressure to the fuel line when the level gets that low.
