Topic: Bungs for carb and exhaust when cleaning/painting

Hi ... thanks to the member whose posted a pic where I spotted chair leg rubbers being used to bung up the holes when painting the engine. I purchased 8 20mm chair leg rubbers and they do the job sweet as. Pic shows them in use on the carb side immediately after some paint stripper had been used and then washed down. The paint stripper was applied to mainly attack a previous owners paint job on the cylinders, etc. Worked well, but I only hope it does not have any bad effects on the gaskets or other objects.

I just painted my engine this past weekend and would have used this trick!  I actually didnt paint that piece of the carbs on mine but I just stuffed paper towels in the holes and it worked pretty good too.

You're going to laugh, but while I haven't gotten around to actually painting my carbs yet, while I've had them off the bike this winter I covered them with condoms. I couldn't find anything else to use and didn't want to spend the time/money looking for something to do the job, and had a few lying around (been a lonely lonely year). They actually worked great, I only had one break on me, and they've been sitting for about 8 months now.

Ha ha ha ha  ... excellent. Improvising. I love it. Heard it all now, but hey, lateral thinking, going outside the square, what ever works.

I am lucky enough to have a hydraulic shop next door to my work place.  They make up hoses for anything, mainly logging and heavy equipment pieces.  They have lots of plastic plugs of all sizes that they use to cover the hose ends so nothing will get into the hose ( dirt).  These plastic plugs work great for sealing carbs and exhaust ports etc when rebuilding or painting.
