26mm float gauge measurement
« on: March 06, 2008, 09:20:54 PM »
Finally I was sent photos of the original tool.  A 38 year old float tool the dealers gave to the mechanics.
The 26mm is measured from the lip around the carb, not the gasket surface.  On the early carbs.
See the measurement details here:  http://www.salocal.com/sohc/tech/float_tool/float_gauge.htm

Sorry but that aint the Honda tool, it may be of a type that was supplied instead but the proper tool is adjustable for width and height
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Here's the one sold to the public shown in my Honda Manual, the one above, "dealers gave to the mechanics." It does measure 26mm from the lip around the carb.  You can see the calliper reading at the link in my post.

I must have the updated manual as it shows the adjustable one which is what we had on the wall at the dealership i worked at, for some reason we had to replace all the misslayed over the years and worn out tools and cheapest way was to buy another complete kit, guess where i got my carb adjusting tools, vac adaptors and float gauge from!

....don't know, but this tool came out later, about when the CV carbs ('77-'78) were stock and there was no lip around the bottom.  This tool is not model specific and can be used on many different carbs.  The one in my post was handed out to the guy who sent me the images by the Honda dealer he worked for in 1970.
