Newbie from New York, Long Island.
« on: March 09, 2008, 07:30:51 PM »
Hi,

Glad to finally join this forum! I have been a long time Honda CB fan. Currently, I have 2 CB 750's, a '73 and a '74. My 74 was purchased 15 years ago as a beat up chopper with an 836cc kit, 15" rear wheel, fairing with a radio and antenna! I stripped it down as soon as it rolled into my garage. It rolled out of the garage  a month later with drag bars,a new paint job and some other changes. I have enjoyed riding this bike for years, it has 47,000 miles on it, it now needs to be restored.

I was lucky enough to find a "new" 1974 CB 750 with 2200 miles on it, it's all original, for the most part. I love it, it's smooth and for the most part in good shape. I just got it running a few months ago. It's road worthy now, so I'm riding that one right now. It just needs some minor things now. Here are some pictures.

The orange one has alot of power, and handles nice. The blue one rides really smooth and the engine purrs like a kitten. I really haven't taken it on any long rides yet and the weather is really cold hear still. I have noticed a little front wheel wobble at 40 mph, it then goes away at 45 mph. I tried tighten up the bearings, but it didn't help. I'm going to just order the bearing kit, that's what i had to do to the orange one.

Nice bikes and welcome!

The front wheel wobble at 40mph was exactly what I had on my K2 and it also would go away at higher or lower speeds....turned out to be tire pressure. Increasing psi from 28 psi to 32 psi cured the problem.

Those bikes look very clean and I especially like the blue one - great colour. There are a few of us in New England should you ever want to come this way for a ride.

cheers
Andy

where abouts on the Island are you? I keep jumping from Port Wahington to Queens to NYC.

If you get a chance, sign up to the nycvinmoto.com e-mail list. Lots of local guys into vintage iron. Also, try to make monday nights at matchless in brooklyn and tuesdays at the ear bar in manhattan.

If you are closer to montauk, my pops has a place out there. Pm me some contact info and the next time I am out there riding we'll meet up.
