« on: March 07, 2008, 01:30:30 PM »
ok so i was riding my newly rebiult cb550 76' super sport , i was cruising at about 70 , when i i felt hesitation in the throttel , when i pulled off she died as soon as she got to idel... i pulled the spark plug wire from cylinder 4 and it was the same i realized that 1 and 4 cylinder were'nt firing just 2-3 , so i figured the coil went bad on my ride.... i swapped out the coil... and it was STILL not running. any ideas ..im not sure how to check the continuity of the coils.

Check your points- 1 and 4 use 1 set,2 and 3 use the other set. Check wire between points and coil - each coil/point set uses a separate wire. Thats the easy stuff....hope it helps.

My buddy is having the same issue with his bike.  We are still trying to sort it out.

Check the timing - this will tell you if power is flowing through the Dyna pickup properly.  Also check power going into the coils.  Put a sparkplug in the wire cap and rest on the engine - turn it over.  Do the plugs spark?

If you swapped coils and it works, then you know the coil is fine.  It might not be getting any power though for 1 and 4 which points to a problem with the Dyna, or between the Dyna and the coils.  Could be a simple broken wire or loose connection.

Look at the plugs.  Fouled ones don't work well.  Swap with ones you do know that work, or renew.

How's your mixture?  Air filter dirty?

It is possible for a Dyna to go bad.  Do you have low ohms coils?
Check the power connection to each coil.

Check your battery voltage.
