Newbie in Bakersfield, CA
« on: March 10, 2008, 08:13:18 AM »
Hello all  :)

This weekend I purchased a 77 CB550 that was advertised in the local paper, and I found this site while doing a bit of research on the bike.

I'll be picking it up this evening, so pictures should follow within a day or so.  I tried picking it up last night, but it is in bad need of carb service and doesn't like to idle, it died so much that I drained the battery trying to restart it.  The previous owner has it on a battery charger overnight for me.

Anyways... I'm sure you'll see me around here and there.  I've never worked on a bike before and this one does need a little bit of work, so I'm sure I'll have some questions for all the experts here.  For now I'm just searching and reading what has already been posted. :)

Welcome, look forward to the pics. Lots of 550 help to be found here.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

If you have not already found it, there's a great thread HERE with just about every Honda shop manual you'd ever need.

Cheers and good luck to you with the 550

Thank you for the welcome and thanks for the link Mystic.  That'll come in handy this weekend when I tear into the carbs.  ;D

I went to the local Honda Dealership yesterday and ordered the gasket kit for the carbs, they should be here tomorrow.  I also finally got the bike home.  I ended up having it towed home.  I wanted to make sure it made it... plus I haven't insured it yet, so I'd rather not risk having it on the road.
