78 550k carb tube question
« on: August 07, 2005, 04:21:25 PM »
Actually two questions.
1. i have a tube next to the gas line that goes to nowhere and I am wondering if I can or should route it any where??
2. I took the carbs off and soaked them in  gas then cleaned them but now one is leaking gas at the float bowl seam..does this mean the seal is bad??

Thank you.

1.  Probably you're taking about a vent fitting.  Attach a hose and route it between the swing arm and the motor.

2.  Yes. the seal becomes brittle with age.  Replacement is indicated/

Thank you. I have a clymer but I can not find the same carbs with the two lines on top between 1/2 carbs..it won'e reach to the swingarm it apears to be hanging ner the underside of the tank. There is no crud so it does not apear to carry anything out...

I figured as much about the seal.

The only manual that covers those carbs is the genuine Honda supplement
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

If it is the tube next to the gas inlet (from the gas tank to the #2 carb) I ran it it up along the frame tube that the tank mounts on.

It sounds like the carb vent tube.

carb vent tube..yes it is right next to the fuel tube going in to the carb..so it does not leak fuel or anything?

It seems to me that it ran near the tank vent tube for a bit and just ends near the rear of the tank...

I routed ours up along the upper frame tube that the tank mounts to.

Perhaps I did it wrong.
