Neutral switch adjustment....
« on: August 07, 2005, 04:31:21 PM »

The neutral switch on my K0 works fine in neutral........but also likes to come on during acceleration
in 2nd gear.  Is there an adjustment for this inside the transmission cover or does the switch itself
incorporate an adjustment?

This is a two part question... ;D...will oil drain if I remove the neutral switch?

Thanks,

Jim

i have been told, that unscrewing the back of the switch,(which when i tried, was near on impossible), and stretching the spring a bit, then putting it back together, fixes it up, though i found one on ebay new for 10 dollars, didnt need to do it... NEone else tried to adjust then?..peace

I assume you are referring to a CB750 K0.
I have had no success repairing these switches and have always ended up replacing them with new ones. I have not had exactly the same problem you describe, mainly it has been with the light being on at all times albeit a bit dimmer than normal. The switch is actuated by the shift drum which is in the main crankcase and can only be replaced during a full engine rebuild. These do not usually give problems.
As it is only happening in 2nd gear, it would be worth removing the transmission cover and checking that the selector mechanism is OK.
If you undo the plate that retains the neutral light switch, the switch is a tight fit and is sealed by a o-ring. You will need a pair of good pliers or vice grips to remove it.
You will then get some oil coming out. The amount depends on how good the non return valve is. Ideally should only be a half litre or less.
