cb750 carb holders
« on: May 14, 2008, 01:33:00 PM »
I just bought my first cb750 and the PO had cut the carb holders/tubes off. These are the tubes that go from the carbs to the engine.
My question is this, is there any adhesive that I could use to do a temp. repair on these tubes??
I am thinking something that would work similar to testors plastic modeling glue. I remember using that stuff on plastic models and it would basically melt and bond the two pieces of plastic together.
This is just a temp fix to see if I can get the bike turned over without having to tear down the carbs and redo the gaskets etc.
And only the outer two have been cut (One is cut in two and the other is cut @ half way through)
Any advice/ help would be great.

I don't think that any adhesive will cure that damage.  The carb boots are exposed to heat, gas, and vibration.  You could probably rig up something out of radiator hose or the like, just to see if the bike will fire, but you'd probably be best of finding some used ones on eBay or something.

I will say this, buy new ones, or used ones on ebay.
Rigging this is hard and will take allot of time, and more than likely will not work out well.
Trust me i tried this 15 or so years ago.

Yep, i have issues with this sort of stuff.

You can buy them new from Honda for the same price as ebay and you are sure they are new supple.

I just bought a set from Z1enterprises.com.  They're members here and really have great customer service.

If you're going to keep the bike and fix it up you might as well purchase new ones.  Never purchase used ones unless they're nearly free.  Old ones get hard and cause air leaks which can impair and even hurt your engine.

Yours were probably so hard and worn the PO just cut them off knowing they would need to be replaced.

I will check Z1 out, I purchased other stuff from them and had no problems.
I'm just impatient and wanted to hear this bike run.

If you just want to hear it run till the new ones come in, people have used radaitor hose. Very short term.
