This should go in the "parts" but I'd like to try it here for a day or so then I'll wipe it.

I'm after an aftermarket tacho for my K7/K8 (june'78 build) rat

I'm not interested in originality but can't find anything in Oz to run off the twin coil system

So you want an electronic tacho, not the cable driven one.

I suppose you could get one if possible for a 4 cylinder car ??, would that work ??

Get ahold of scondon I think his tach is eletronic.

Electronic is what I'm after but car ones are no good as they're made for a single coil system.

I've contacted quite a few instruments places & they've all said "no chance"

i wouldnt know what would be involved, but what about modifying a later model tach from a bike, one of the naked style bikes would probably provide one that looks right

I thought of that but wanted to see if one was buyable first so I don't have a lot of mucking around to do.

I rebuilt my present one but the rotor on later Ks is different & the tacho becomes inaccurate as the revs increase

Couldn't you just splice the wires for the spark sensor into more than 1 coil? I don't see how this would cause any significant issues.

but if you did that you would have to cut the tach open and remark the face for a reading that is out by 75%

Found a web page here in Oz advertising tachos.

I wrote the bloke asking his advice on the models advertised, where to get them etc.

I received an answer "we are wholesale, we don't sell direct", that was it

Bloody turkey, even if I knew where they are sold he can get stuffed.

Can you not just run off one coil and re-calibrate?

Or you could run a dyna2000, it has a tach output wire that works with the auto tachs
there are some other brands, but I dont remember what they are.
