Well, she is finally up and going.  Short story long, there wasn't enough fuel provided (Good thing I removed the head about 3 times and retimed the thing about 6 times) but you live and you learn.

For the 650 cam, it is in fact a direct drop in and go.  There are no wires to cross or anything like that.  In my case, there was no contact between the cam and the head, but I did take a dremel and removed about 100 thou from the head where the 650 cam lobes pass for oiling issues.  Other than that, there's nothing to it.

It will be a while before I update with how much increase in power she has, as I am going to tear the bike down and get it ready for powder coat.  Sorry, I know everyone is looking for the power results, but they will have to wait.

Same here,.. I got a 650 cam sitting on the bench and a stock 550 driver but something fun comes up every weekend and it never happens.

Its not even a big job and I need a valve adjustment so now's the time to do it.

I probably spent more time watching this thread than it takes to do it. How lazy is that  ::)

+1 on just waiting to do it. I'm waiting for overbore replacement parts, so I have to re-adjust valves anyway. glad to hear its a drop and go however. I already removed some head material in preparation for the installation of this cam months ago.

Well I finally did it, no drama just drop in the cam and go. Nice improvement, here's the ride report..

This might be obvious to some, but can you drop this cam into a CB500 too?  ??? I have to pull the motor to replace the top end gaskets and I figure while im in there...  ;D

its not necessary to pull out themotor to replace top end gaskets on a 500...
...and I believe the 650 cam is a plug and go as well.

Yea- I know I can do it with the motor in, but part of me wants to clean the whole thing up and paint (or powdercoat) it anyhow. The rest of my bike is looking alot prettier than the engine. I guess Im really just looking for justification to go all out and take my bike off the road for awhile... Oh wait! I could slap that cam in with the motor still in the bike!  ;D

What about the 650 head? Does that bolt right up? Mmmm... big valves...
