cb350f into cafe
« on: March 10, 2008, 11:37:48 AM »
Well here's my current project until I run out of funds.
I bought cb350 form mikedialect a couple months ago.
Definitely in need of a little TLC. One of the cylinders got water in it and the valves were ruined. Found a head on ebay. Honed the cyclinders and I think they'll be fine.
I was inspired by everybody pounding knee dents in there tanks so I went to town and was pretty pleased with my results.
I bought a triple clamp and forks from a 750 to beef up the front and all used cb350f forks seem to be rusted up bad. Found a 2.15 rim for the rear and will use original 1.85 rear in the front.
My current problem is to mount the forks. The triples mount to the frame no problem with the addition of a small spacer, but the forks are 3" longer which is length I don't want. I want the tops of the forks to be flush with triples.
The solutions I've thought are either shorter tubes or the addition of a spacer which stop the tube from extending fully. For either option I would need to cut my spring to avoid excessive preload and i would lose travel and risk bottoming out. I think I'll try adding the spacer and only cut the springs minimally to add more preload (I am large and am shooting for looks more than function) and hope it doesn't bottom out.   Any suggestions????

Cycle-X sells shorter fork tubes for the 750. You can check with them.
