New 1976 CB750 F Wheels
« on: March 10, 2008, 06:16:30 PM »
I just bought a 76 CB750f Super Sport I wanted to get a set of used of rims.  I spoke to a dealer and they were unable to tell me what years and models use the same size front and rear rims.  Does anyone know? Any help would be great.

Also I'm in NJ so if you have rims or any cafe style parts let me know.  I also could use an exhaust and left side panel.

Thanks

Welcome as a new member! One great thing about this site is the search feature. Do a search for "cb750 wheels" or "rim swap" - you'll be surprised how much info you can find. Most of these topics like "what kind of wheels will fit my bike?" have been already thoroughly documented here in the forum - some are documented mulitple times  ;)

Go here, http://www.cmsnl.com/ and pull up your model, and the one you want to compare.  If the part numbers match, you're golden.

If I remember right the front wheel on your '76f is the same as the ones that are on the 750k bikes. The rear wheel however is a '75 and '76 750F only wheel. In 77 the F bikes wore Comstar's, not the spoked wheels. Hope this helps....

The rear wheel is different for the 75/76F , but the rim is the same for the CB750 K0-K6 and CB750F75-76, - an 18inch x 2.15 40 spoke DID rIm.
The front is a 1.85 by 19 inch DID rim also with 40 spokes for the CB750 K0-K6 and CB750F75-76
NB most Y and S brand bikes used 36 spoke wheels!!! The larger K bikes used the same size rims with 40 spokes, but made by Tagasaki
The 77/78 K bikes had 17inch rear rims, but again used the 19inch front rim. The 77/78F used Comstars as meentioned earlier
The CB750a's used aluminium rims (17rear and 19 front)

Doing a SEARCH/WHERE USED on ServiceHonda.com (which you really need to learn) provides the following:

Front   44701-300-13 (Daido)
          44701-405-771

44701-300-13:
 750K0 / K1 / K2 / K3 / K4 / K5 / 76 / 77 / 78
 750F0 (75) / F1 (76)
 550K0 / K1 / 77 / 78
 550F 76 / 77
 500K0 / K1 / K2
 500T 76

44701-405-771 also:
 750K 79 - 82
 750L 79
 650 80 - 82
 650C 80 - 81

Rear  42701-300-13:
 750K0 / K1 / K2 / K3 / K4 / K5 / 76
 750F 75 / 76
 750K 79 - 82
 750L 79

Hope this helps

Jerry

RXman

Tell us how to use the servicehonda search/where used, please.  I tried the service honda site but don't see where there is any search item /where used.

1. http://www.servicehonda.com/TSWeb/default.htm (I'll use my bike as an example)
2. connect (if connect isn't "clickable" - tools - internet options - security - custom - enable or prompt the ActiveX stuff then refresh
3. continue yes
4. click on little book (Open Catalogue) in upper left hand corner
5. Honda & OK
6. Motorcycle & OK
7. Select model from drop down list CB750 & OK
8. Select CB750F from drop down & OK
9. Select KO 750 Super Sport & OK       NOW YOU'RE IN
10. I use Parts Reference Window selected to the right of the little book. This gives contents, schematic & parts   list all on 1 screen
11. Click on Search on the line above the little book
12. Where Used (under Search) - you can either enter a part  number here or find your schematic, highlight the part number then go to Where Used and when the part number is in the part number line click OK - BINGO
13. Now, to find Service Honda's 30% discounted internet price just double click the part number you're interested in on the list to the right of the schematic and it comes up in the lower box. The only thing at this point is you still do not know if it is available from Honda. Service Honda pulls this old stuff from a Honda warehouse and doesn't keep it on hand once you order. Relatively quick and CHEAP shipping. I go to Bike Bandit and their system tells you if it's still available THEN I go to Service Honda and order it at the discounted price. Same warehouses better prices.

Now, are you totally confused? Try it, PM me if you need help. Remember, you can't get in if you can't get past your own security settings!

Thanks, it works.  Great tool, especially when I need to go to the wreckers and search parts.

Thanks

Hard to find nice rims... these things all rust a bit in 25+ years

you can still buy the front rim from Honda - about $80 - much cheaper than rechroming($125?)

As shown, you can buy the rear wheel from another 750 ebay, strip the rim and respoke. New spoke kits for the F are available from the Asian vendors on ebay, about $50/set (compared to $120+/set from Honda). Front spokes a little easier to find, about same price

Good luck!!

Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure the rear spokes are the same size as the same year K model.  I compared mine to a K model and and the mounting points on the hub are in the exact same place as the K.  Take a long look at your hubs and you'll see what I mean, that thing is the same size as a drum.

Thanks RxmanGriff.

A note to those who try it: I tried with Firefox and it wouldn't let me in.  I changed my security settings, and still no joy.  Tried Explorer and I was able to connect.  Maybe I just need to restart Firefox in order for it to work, but I figured I'd mention it for anyone that was having problems.

I've used the cross reference on cmsnl and it works except when the part is not available, so it's not useful all the time.  But this seems to work great.

Another note, if you click the default full screen option, it takes the browser into full screen, and makes your taskbar tabs disappear, so I'd take the size down a little to make life easier.

Thanks again.

Front spokes are the same as the K but the rears are different.

I got new rims from Service Honda rather than messing with rechroming. Rechroming only helps the outside appearance but you may have quite a bit of rust on the inside to deal with that you will not have with new rims. I think one was $80 and the other $60. I went ahead and got the spokes too for about $100 per wheel since it will be for an eventual restore (except for a 900 full pop engine  :)). Otherwise I would have gotten stainless spokes from Buchanans.
