Who needs a 750F anyway???
« on: March 11, 2008, 08:04:58 AM »
So I just heard back from a guy that contacted me about 2 weeks ago in response to a craig's list ad I had looking for old Hondas.  He has a 73 750 in very good shape that's been parked most of its life, including the last year.  He bought it off the original owner (who had it in his basement for almost 20 years) about 2 years ago, had the carbs worked and road it a little for about a year until a hip replacement stopped him from riding.  Wasn't looking to sell but saw my ad and thought it should be put back on the road.  Said $1,200 would make him happy (I'm reading that as $1,000 would work but even $1,200 is a good deal).  Here's the pic he just sent me.  I've sent it to my friend and basically told him he's nuts if he doesn't want it.

Guy said everything was original.  I haven't had a chance to see it in person yet so I don't know for sure.  I thought the exhaust was originally 4-4 not 4-2 but I'm no expert.

I just looked up the history and I might be mistaken about it being a 73.  I think that color only came in the 69-70 and 75 years and the early ones had matching headlight ears so this one is most likely a 75.

I sold that bike long ago and want it back!

OK, why did you send it to your friend?! You got $1000 for the F and $1000 might get this low mileage bike?! Now, I really like my friends BUT not that much!!  ;)  You were an unknown friend to the PREVIOUS owner of the F and now...............    You just gotta quit being so damn friendly!!
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

LMAO!!!  The wife wouldn't let me keep this one anyway and this is truly a great friend.  I had to use the money from the F to payback the checking account for the cash I used on it and I've used the remainder on getting stuff for the 350 project (including a titled frame thanks to Dusterdude) and some stuff we needed for the house so I don't think that logic would work with her but it almost did with me. ;D

that is a 1974 in Liberty Green (I think that is the color name). The 1973 Green would be Candy Bacchus Olive.

the exhaust is not original. The original headpipes are more rounded and it would be a 4-4 stock. The crash bar, fairing, and luggage, are also aftermarket pieces but other than that everything else looks original right down to the grips.

Edit: That is Freedom Green metallic, not liberty green. Sorry. Either way it is a 1974 only color. For some reason you don't see a lot of 1974s, espically painted that color.

The more I think about it I vaguely remember the guy saying something about the original owner having to replace the pipes in the early 80s right before he stopped riding it.  It's been a couple weeks so the mind is a bit fuzzy.  Seems like he said they rotted out (I understand that was common for those pipes).

My friend wrote back and said the bike looked perfect so I'll probably be cleaning out the tank, checking all the settings, giving everything the once-over, and firing her up within a couple weeks if all goes well.  From what I can tell in the picture it's rediculously nice for $1,200.

That's kinda what I thought. But not a totally unconvincing look, tho...
