Timing creep
« on: March 12, 2008, 04:36:42 PM »
Early last summer I installed  $6.00  Daichii points on the 750F.  At about 1000 miles I again checked the advanced timing with a strobe and found the timing to be slightly advanced, not where I had set it and not noticeable to me when running.  I reset again between the advance marks with the strobe and 1000 miles later I checked and the same, slightly advanced. 4 times I did this.
Is there a logical explanation?               Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, check for wear on the heel of the points, the part that rubs on the cam.

Dave, the point gap does effect the timing. When I had points I had a problem getting 2-3 where I need them. I had the choice of elongating the slots or tweaking the points. Since it was minor, I tweaked the points. I think you points are probably the cause.

You sure the adjusting plate is synched down good and tight? Probably is, but thought I would ask.
