cb500 ignition advancing ??
« on: March 14, 2008, 12:37:24 PM »
Any idea why my timing marks don't seem to advance or move at all when I rev up to 4000-ish rpm? The marker stays consistently at the "F" mark.

Your advance mechanism is stuck?

Heh yes there is a more-than-slight-chance of this.  Pop off the points plate and try to turn the advancer cam by hand.  You should see the weights move.  If it's not fairly easy to turn, rebuild or replace it.

Exact-a-mundo guys. My advancer was pretty stuck. I pulled it apart and greased it up, and it moves freely now, but my springs seem to be worn out. Any idea where to get those little springs from?

Id be surprised if those springs are available separately anywhere.  Honda would likely sell you the whole advancer, if those are even available.  You could score a replacement advancer on eBay I suppose.  Those springs need to be just so, their spring rate will determine how fast/how soon advancement kicks in.

What makes you say they're worn out?
