Master cylinder reservoir scarf. What for?
« on: March 11, 2008, 11:39:52 AM »
I've seen many times in magazines, that competition bikes -and many street bikes, I guess out of imitation- use what seems like "wrist bands" like the ones used to wipe your sweat when you are working out to cover the reservoir. What's the purpose of that? I can only think in two reasons: to isolate the reservoir from outside temperature, or to catch the fluid if there is a leak or a spill. Does anybody know the real reason?

You forgot the 3rd reason. Just because it "looks" cool.
That would be my guess.

You'll see that a lot on import cars as well.  My buddy bought a Honda Del Sol with a black and pink sweatband (or whatever you want to call it) on the brake resevoir as well.  ::)

Well, I guess that saying it looks "warm" seems more apropiate...  ;D

Unless it has some use on it, I don't think it looks cooler than the reservoir itself. While in cars I like the clean lines, in motorbikes I like to see the systems and machinery.

Just like RED paint,
wrist bands on your resovoir will make it go faster.
