I'm trying to get my buddies bike running for him. His brother built it a couple years ago and rode it out here and left it for him. It's been sittting ever since because it never ran right. It appears to be a 1972 cb750 engine, (I looked it up by the numbers stamped on the engine), and the carbs are the keihin round slides that came with that engine. It's been fitted into a rigid frame with a springer front end. I checked out the electrical system and cleaned everything pretty good and then took the carbs off and completely disassembeled them and cleaned them too. The jetting is stock with a 110 main jet. Floats were checked and appear correct at 27mm. Its got straight headers, (two 2 into 1 pipes) and pod type unifilters. When I reassembled it it starts right up and idles fine. The idle to 1/2 throttle response is excellent but when it's whacked open it bogs down. It's gotta be gettin too much air with the pod filters cause when I whack it with the choke 1/2 closed it responds better. The needle clip was one position up from the bottom. I then moved the needle clip up one position, (dropping the needle), and it ran worse. Today I'll try moving the needle all the way up, (dropping the clip to the bottom of the needle), and see if that helps. Is anyone running this setup, (Pod filters w/ stock engine and carbs), what jets and needle position are you running. Thanks in advance.
