Just got back from a weekend at the coast, finishing off practical training for a group of motorcycle riding instructor wannabees. So we got to putter around on the school bikes....250 Marauders and a Rebel, plus a 450 Nighthawk. It was wet and miserable, but woohoo, yes, the 2008 riding season has officially started!!

On the sixth day God turned to the Archangel Gabriel and said: "Today I am going to create a land called Canada  It will be a  land of outstanding natural beauty.  It shall have tall majestic mountains full of mountain goats, and eagles, beautiful sparkling lakes bountiful with bass and trout, forests full of elk and moose, high cliffs over-looking sandy beaches with an abundance of sea life, and rivers stocked with salmon."

God continued, "I shall make the land rich in resources so as to make the inhabitants prosper, I shall call these inhabitants Canadians, and they shall be known as the most friendly people on the earth."

"But Lord," asked Gabriel "don't you think you are being too generous to these Canadians?"

"Not really," replied God "just wait and see the winters I am going to give them!"

I know what you mean Aaron...last Sunday the 16th I was also out in WI.  Would have been nicer on Saturday, but what the heck.  Sun was out and the temp was about 34 I think.  Took an hour ride and it is just so nice to get back on the road.  Saw 2 HD on the road too.  By the time I got home my hands needed a warming.  Nothing like ridin' again.  ;D

Man, it's so hot here, I'm getting bored riding every day and stopping at pubs for an icy cold beer every 50 miles..................  ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

50 miles? you must have a large fuel tank to get that sort of mileage between pubs

That's why I wear braces Dave, I've got no hips to hold my pants up any more! Hmmnnn, could there be a correlation between drinking lots of beer and "big fuel tanks", mate? ;D

Now it snowed again! >:(
Oh well, it will melt today and by Saturday the roads will be dry again and I'll go for another ride. ;D

Managed ride #2 today. It was only 40F, but sunny and dry. I usually draw the line at 45F, but we are expecting a snow storm tomorrow  >:( and figured who knows when the next chance will be. It was nice to ride along the river to Dexter again. ;)

Maybe summer is over all ready? At least I got one ride in  before winter came back. I guess I had better go cut some more wood. :(

OK, here's a topic to discuss. If all of us four-season-dwelling types had the opportunity to move to a place where there was legitimate all year riding, in comfort, would we get overdosed and want to find something else to do?

I understand were you are coming from.  I moved from Oklahoma to Chicago and winters are much longer here but I have always said that you enjoy the summer more in Chicago because you don't take it for granted.  That being said, right now I have a vicious itch to get on the bike and I'm not able to so moving sounds good right now but it will pass.  The first Saturday night that I ride around town and get to look at all the talent walking around, I'll change my tune.

We shouldn't really complain hereabouts. Unless there is an early dump of the stuff you have to shovel, it is possible to ride up until the end of October, and the hardier souls are already riding now. So that's just a 4 month lay off.

My excuse is that being a GHOF I don't like the cold any more. And the bikes still sit in the garage waiting to be fettled. I'm off to the garage now having shamed myself.

Terry,

You know many a study has proven the four distinct seasons are good for your mental health.

Do you believe that? ::)
