SOS - Oil pump cover o-ring needed
« on: August 10, 2005, 10:58:36 PM »
Can anyone give me the number of a company that has the correct size o-ring for the oil pump cover on a 74 CB550? I found a local company that got me a 45mm, but I think it's still leaking. If anyone can tell me the correct cross section size, that would be helpful too.

It was dark when I fired it up, so I couldn't see exactly what was going on. It kept smoking like crazy from the oil pump side of the engine, but I couldn't see any leaks. I thought that it may be just old oil on the pipes burning off, but when I took it back in the shop under the lights I saw a drop of oil on the outside of the oil pump cover. It looked like it leaked out. Maybe the oil pump was supplying the exhaust with fresh oil to burn and I just didn't see it dripping.

Anyway, if someone can help me out with the o-ring I would appreciate it very much! Thanks!

End of next week i am going to do some investigating and possibly purchase of these but i got to buy 100 so they will be up for grabs at cost plus shipping. I know that dont help in the immediate timescale but i will try

This was from another thread - They have a 44.5 and a 44.7, but not a 44.6. More importantly, I need to know the cross section. The one I got locally is 45 with a 2mm cross section. The guy who gave it to me measured the old one to find the cross section, but it was old and flat and that may have thrown off his measurement. I can't be sure though, cause this dude was an o-ring expert. He sells o-rings every day. He probably knows what he's talking about. OTOH, maybe someone here knows the exact cross section size from previous experience.

bryanj, if you get some I'll take a couple.

Thanks again.
