Hey I just wanted allen screws on the carbs because it's near impossible to get a phillips driver in there to drop the bowls  :D

K0's have quick-release clips on the float bowls  :P

TT, I respect that you have a great deal of knowledge about these old machines.  You have provided very detailed information to those that ask.  I do, however, have a problem with your all-encompassing assumption that everyone (or at least certain persons) on this forum are incompetent.  Your assumptions lead you to make insulting statements (intended or not) like the one above.  Furthermore, your "holier than thou" attitude wears on me as it does on others.

You admitted to using them yourself but attack others that plan to do so.  I just don't understand where the hostility originates.

Some people here are incompetent...some just inexperienced. Not directed at anyone....just a fact.

I wouldn't say its a "holier than thou" attitude...more an irritation when folks don't actually listen to what he is saying.

Even if it was a "holier then thou" attitude ....he's earned it.

TwoTired probably has the best most informative posts on here ..(well neck and neck with Hondaman).

Try explaining your proffession (whatever it may be) to a neophite...and you'll get where he is coming from.

Some folks miss the subtle nuiances....because they have never done it for a living.....

I recommend a good set of used rusty bolts.

used rusty metric bolts, if you don't mind.

i could take offense to a few comments but I simply will not.

instead, i will say this.

i don't strip screws installing them, i strip screws trying to get them out.

also, i am a general contractor that does anything from framing to finishing... if you don't think i know how important new phillips bits are or that they come in multiple sizes... you are mistaken.

if you don't think i have a torque wrench and impact driver that i like to call my favorite tools... you are mistaken.

if you think i am a poorly trained mechanic... well,

suck it.

I'll apologize for returning the insulting nature of the discussion.  It was in poor form and not my standard approach.
I would agree with much of what you've said in the above post.  There are many unexperienced people viewing the site.  Understanding that, would it not be better to offer your advice and warnings about over torquing than to imply that others simply don't know how to use cross points?  I think it would have been more easily accepted by everyone.  Just my opinion.

CC,
If you are more concerned about the form you receive information, rather than the information itself, I suggest you simply ignore my posts. No insult intended, just a suggestion. This is a practice I employ on a few members here, and find it works quite well. Besides, you "and others" have far more expertise and are far beyond anything I could offer, anyway.
It is not likely that I am going to suddenly make "style points" in my writing a priority at this late date.  I've written far too many technical articles/reports in my career to suddenly persue adulation from the "touchy/feely crowd", or those more interested in PC adherence.  If I don't fit in to your crowd, well, that is nothing new.  I accept not being invited to your party.

I will admit to this mistake though, this thread was started in the open forum where any old nonsense goes.  I did not realize that, and thought there was to be some technical discussion involved.  I'll try to be more vigilant in that regard, in the future.

This particular post was made BECAUSE it is in the open forum.  I doubt I would have posted this drivel in the tech forum. ::)

Best regards,

I saw this thread come up a few days ago.

What I don't understand Heffay...is why you didn't just do a search for "allen head"

There are quite a few threads exactly like this one.....except for the arguments ;D

that sounds just soooo wrong lol...but gonna throw my questions into this since soon enough im gonna be dealing with the same sort of thing...Does anyone have any sort of images of the mentioned fastener types? Not trying to hijack this...more or less steer it back to where this topic was ment to be....We all came here to learn about what makes our bikes great..so lets all start showing some maturity and focus on that and not wind up bickering like a bunch of ricers...Heff...could never picture you being a poor mechanic..just a poor man with some mechanical skill lol...

I've looked at a few sets, and there is something about them all that bothers me. The dam things just don't look right. They replace oval head screws with flat heads. They replace pan head screws with... arg... can't think of the name... industrial looking stuff. bah.
