Hello all! This is my first time posting, but I've been looking around these forums for a couple of weeks now. In a few days I'll be picking up 2 1978 CB750F's. One is black and the other is candy red; from what I've read these are the two colors that this model was offered in in that year. The story behind the bikes: The black one was bought off the showroom floor in 1978 by the guys dad, and was later passed down to him. In 1992 or 93 the guy wrecked it...bent forks and trashed the front wheel, but he has the parts to fix it. It has not run since then. The red one hasn't run in 5 years or so, and he is the third owner. He bought it to replace the black one when he decided he didn't want to fix it. I've looked at both and the red one is in amazing condition appearance wise. The people that I've talked to said that the price ($1000) is well within reason for both bikes. Both have clear titles. What do you guys think about that deal? As far as mechanics go, the red one will need a new battery and the carbs cleaned, and a new throttle cable and possibly a new clutch. The motor kicked over easily without any unusual sounds. The black one will probably end up being a parts bike, or maybe eventually (assuming there's no frame damage from the wreck) a cafe project.
I'm sure I'll be posting here quite a bit for tech help, although I'm pretty good with a wrench. My experience however has been on my current ride, an 03 HD Road King, and this will be my first attempt at working on a Japanese motorcycle.
I'm a 26 year old 4th year high school band director from rural Alabama. Nice to meet Ya'll!
