Comstar front wheel?
« on: March 15, 2008, 06:48:17 PM »
I picked up a set of comstars for my 1978 cb750k.  I got the rear all set, but im having some problems with the front.  I have the front axle from my original spoked wheel, and i picked up a speedo that will work with the wheel.  I installed it all, but have a good size bit of space that i need to take up.  Does anyone have any expirience with this?  Possibly a diagram?  any assistance would be nice, andi have access to a salvage yard if there are specific spacers i need.  THanks in advance

Here's a parts diagram of the front wheel and components of a front comstar of a 78' CB750F. Hope that helps. You can find this and lots of other stuff, including the parts listing, @ crotchrocket.com . Hope that helps. ;)

hmm back this...  Well im still having trouble.  I have 2 spacers in there and a washer to take up he space, i cant find a spacer anywhere.  The reason why this has become more of an issue than before is due to brake issues.  My inner pad (non moving) rubs against the disc, and it is beyond adjustment.  Also when i squeeze the brake i notice the wheel and disc both flex.  When driving (very short distance) i notice when i apply the brake i get some serious vibration and noise.  I will take some picture of my set up when i get home.  Let me know what you think, and again it is a single disc comstar front wheel going on a 78' cb750k fork.  Thanks all!

Sorry I didn't keep up with this one. :-\ I finally got back to it, to find that you are only using a single disc setup and will see what I can do. Do you have any idea what the wheel came off of? Far as I know, all the 750fs that had Comstars, had the 2 disc setup (I could be wrong) The 79' 650 had a single disc and  I'm posting a parts page of that one. Hope this helps. Maybe someone will jump in here with some measurements that will help.

hey hey, thanks...no idea, picked it up at a salvage yard.  I did find the wheel is definetly of center inbetween the forks, i dont think i can center it without pulling it in to far away from the brake.  I will keep on trucking, thanks!

I am thinking..

That you took a wheel, off the other style forks (ones with a rib on the fork leg.. and then put that wheel on a 77/78 K front end.. and the disc may look like it lines up.. but probably does not.. I think the disc may be smaller as well.

In your spacer pics, the groves on the spacer look like it used to run in the seal, so it may be wrong.

Looking at the corrosion on the disc pic, I am guessing you live near SpongeBoB... :o

yeah im pretty lost.  At the "yard" there was a big stack of wheels, found a rear comstar which must have been from a 750A because it matched up perfect.  The front i have no idea.  Also i found that the front part of the disk isnt make contact, only the rear (by the header pipes)  and for the spacers...there was a big bucket of them, it was the only thing i could find that fit in the dust boot tightly.  thanks
