400F Jumping the main switch
« on: March 18, 2008, 07:32:30 AM »

I would like to test my wiring harness but at present don't have the  proper key set.  The wiring diagram indicates that the circuit has continuity when the red and black are connected and the brown/white with the brown.
Is there something special about the main switch for these models?  The proper switch is used on some 750 models ( 76) and an early gold wing as well as the 400F and the 550.  Why won't any honda switch work?  I picket up a switch and key at the wreckers ( doner bike unknown) and it bolts to the frame and has 6 wire female fitting rather than the 5 for the 400.  I fitted the switch to the harness but am unable to get any power to lights etc.

Any thoughts

Greg

just take pieces of wire, strip the last half inch and use them to jump the plug on the wire harness that the igniton switch wouuld normally plug into.  If you connect the wires as it shows in the wire diagram, it would work the same as having an ignition switch in place.

I'll give that a try.  Tested the switch as per the manual but doesn't seem to work.

Thanks
