CB750 is it an import?
« on: August 09, 2005, 12:34:51 PM »
Hi there I wonder if anyone can help me, I have bought an unregistered Honda CB750 in the UK as a project bike.  Someone told be me that it may be an American import. The numbers are

The numbers are Chassis number (VIN)- 1031114
Engine number - CB750E - 2544770
It also has year of construction 19

Apparently UK bikes do not have the year of construction bit.

Any help is appreciated

It looks like a 1976 F1 from the numbers. The frame/VIN should be CB750F-1031114. If there is no "F" it is a K0 with a F1 engine.
From what I understand the US models of the F1 used a different numbering system which commenced at CB750F-2000003, but used the same engine numbering as the rest of the world.
Funny because the 1975 F used the numbers CB750F-1000002 to CB750F-1015054 and was only sold in the US

Thank you Clyde.  The frame is older than the engine as a previous owner replaced the engine.  Do you feel that the frame is an American frame?

Ian, What exactly is the frame number including CB750 "F"-?
Does it have a disc brake?

Hi

There is no mention of a F in the frame number but the bike does have a disc on the front.  The back is drum

It must be a K0 frame with a F1 engine. Good combination.
I cannot help with identifying if it is an import

Most if not all of these CB750's originated in Japan.  So, taking into consideration the country of origin, any sovereignty possessing an alleged CB750 would, under the SOHC treaty of 1969 must be by law considered an import.  However, numerous amendments adopted since the initial treaty, exclude Iceland and Switzerland.  Armed with this living history, I must conclude that your CB750 is in actuality, a nomad in search of permanent citizenship.
