Blinkers not blinking
« on: August 09, 2005, 12:48:14 PM »
I labeled all electrical connections before I took the the front end apart and then got them all connected back up the same way, and while the left/right blinkers will light up, they won't blink. They just stay on constantly and the buzzer only sounds when I switch from the left to the right blinker or vise-versa.

Before I spend three weeks following all the connections again to make sure they're right, does anyone know a possible trouble point I can check first about this?

It's a '78 CB750F2 BTW.

Thanks.

Flasher unit tends to be voltage sensitive.

Check your battery is fully charged. Or, Hook up the charger to the battery then try the turn signals.

That's not out of the question! :)

Where is it? I'll have to take a peek in my shop manual about it.

On the left side, under the cover, to the right of the fuse box. You should see a small silver rectangle with 2 or 3 spades sticking out of it. It is usually plugged into a rubber grommet that holds it in place.

you should purchase an electronic flasher unit also. you can get it at any auto parts store. they work so much better. on my 400/4 there was a delay of 2-3 seconds from the time I turned on the blinkers until they actually lit up, not with the electronic flasher unit it's instant.

Try a new flasher relay first as it is only a few bucks. If that doesn't fix things then check that all lights, front and rear, are working because one bad bulb will stop all signals from working properly.

If it worked fine before you pulled the front end apart then I'd check that no signal wires got pinched at the base of the fork ears. Also, your fork ears act as a ground path to your headlight bucket mounts.Any rubber between your fork ears and headlight will negate this ground(happened to me). There is a green wire attached to each of the two mounting nuts inside the bucket, check that these are connected to your harness.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

Kyre,

What electronic flasher did you use.  I tried a 502 flasher it was OK.  I'm using the orig. 142 flasher now but I get that delay when I turn on the flasher.

Thanks

Greg in Chicago.

this is the flasher I use. http://www.imperialinc.com/items.asp?item=0801350
3 prong, just ground the 3rd prong with that green wire that usually just hangs out. I switched because i'm putting LED's in soon, but for the normal bulbs it works great and no more delay.

Kyre,

I tried the EP-35 flasher on my 77 750k.  Works like a charm.  Thanks for the tip.

Same here. Picked it up at Autozone for $10 tonight, plugged it in, and it works great!
