Greetings from Atlanta!
« on: March 13, 2008, 05:29:17 PM »
Hi, Everyone.

I'm new to the forum, and although this is my first CB, I've had this CB750 for probably about 2 years and have really enjoyed it.

I have finally developed a few problems (i.e. no 2nd gear, head gasket leaking, etc) that I'd rather trust to a professional (if I can find one)... but I have been learning a lot from the forums and am looking forward to learning more about how to take good care of this fine machine. :)

Welcome Dustin,
What part of Atlanta do you live in?  I  ride a 77, CB550 and enjoy it tremendously.

I live In-town in the Kirkwood/East Lake/Oakhurst area... right SW of Decatur.  On warmer weather days I've seen a couple of guys cruising around on CB's, but last time I tried to join them my bike suddenly lost all electrical power and left me stranded (I'm still trying to find that bug)!

So do you know anyone capable of pulling my motor and fixing my transmission? ;)

Welcome.  I'm in Athens.

I don't know of any shops that specialize in old CBs off hand, but I'm sure any shop could do it.  -If they'll actually take on a 30+year old bike.

Have you thought about doing it yourself?  I plan to go through a trans some time in the next year just for the knowledge.

I've certainly "thought" about doing it, but when I look at the sheer amount of engine disassembly that would need to be done to fix the transmission... I don't feel so good about my mechanical skills.

I've pulled the motor out of my VW Bus and rebuilt the "top end", however it's not NEARLY as complex of a project. Apart from that, I don't have a garage!

I feel you. I have no garage, so I took my carbs apart in my living room, and have done the rest of my work on the front porch. Since finishing the carbs, I've been dodging other necessary work for a couple of months now.

I'm in East Atlanta Village

Fuzzybutt,

My VW Bus is a '67, and you can have it... for 9000 bucks. :)

As for fixing my bike, I don't have a truck (or trailer hitch for the bus)... so getting it to you would be a challenge. Thanks for the offer though!

Hmm, Dustin from Atlanta with a 13 window '67 microbus.  Sounds too close to my life.  It's even the same color as mine.  You might be all right.

Looks like yours will take you to the store though.  Mine's out in the shed, engine's in the basement.  Will this be the year it goes again???

Howdy! I'm from the same area (Reynoldstown / Cabbage Town to be exact)

You haven't seen me, my CB has been in pieces since I picked it up. If you know how the wiring goes for the right hand control stop on by so I can get her running! :-p
