cb750 igniton switch mount
« on: March 21, 2008, 06:06:43 PM »
these things are as scarce as hens teeth! i ended up spending 60 for one on flea bay. my question is, if i were to start making these from a pattern i'm making from the original factory one would there be a market for them? if i can help a fellow sohc,er from having to go through what i did to get one i'd make some in a heartbeat.

I'd think there would be some market for this, the first question of course being how large of a market?  The accompanying question being "Does it matter how large the market is?" which I think depends on motivation - fun or profit.  If you're doing it out of a love for the machines and a desire to help your fellow addicts, than I say it doesn't matter so much if it's a niche market.

I'd guess, in my totall unqualified way, that this part would not involve a huge time/effort investment in order to get set up for small production runs.  Based on that I'd say go for it, you're bound to sell a few!

it's the fun factor mainly. i know what i've gone through to get one and if i can help some fellow sohc riders avoid that then i'll be happy, maybe even make some out of stainless and polish the hell out of em. with me being unable to really hold down a regular 9-5 job i need something to do wth my time in between side jobs and i thought maybe doing a few things like this would help make the time pass

I agree with troppo, and how soon can I expect my new stainless steel ignition bracket?

:D

lol just kidding, I'm a way off yet from needing one, but a stainless one sounds nice, my tank is smaller and exposes the switch a bit more than stock, so a nice bright piece there would just add to teh overall bling factor.  I'd buy one if you made them.

Heck for that matter you might consider if it would be feasible to offer some mild variations on this part, say ones that either move the key switch in or out a bit.  Some people with varying tanks or who like to relocate their key switches might be interested in that sort of flexibility.  Depends on your production process though, I guess.

Myself if I ran a smaller tank, would rather have a black switcholder.. make it blend in & somewhat disappear, rather than draw attention to it..

You see a lot of overchroming..bolt on scenario.. pretty soon it just looks like...
 stuff piled on stuff
over
stuff piled on stuff
over
stuff plied on stuff......

Looks much cleaner if it blends inand is less noticeable.. IMO

havent tried the fork brace as i'm not at the machine shop right now. all i'm using at this time is a fender mount cut out of a bent up stock fender. i'd love to have a nice aluminum one some day though. might trade one for the f tank i have one day.

You could make that brace with a hacksaw, cordless drill, and files. be quicker with a bandsaw and 20 min on a lathe.

I would never trade that tank for stuff you can make yourself, but that is just me..

I just thought of something, It seems I saw clipons, way back that mounted to the clamp bolt on the outer edge of the top tree, sound easier to make but I am trying to recall how thet stopped from moving up & down.

Could help you out maybe if you tried to make your own..

or trade,  it's in really nice shape, theres a petcock that goes with it too. none of the rust through that i've seen on lots of other f tanks. it needs a new lock or possibly a new flap on the top. not original paint.
