RIP Arthur C. Clarke
« on: March 19, 2008, 11:20:34 AM »
The great thinker and writer Arthur C. Clarke has died, at age 90.  He helped develop early radar systems in WWII, invented the idea of geostationary orbit, and was just a great writer of SciFi and science fact.  I owe many of the finest, most interesting moments of my youth and young adulthood to his books.

I read and in some cases reread alot of his sci fi novels, loved his work.
Sad loss indeed  :(

My bike can be repaired.
My insanity is a little more permanent.

Ditto. Being a fan of 'hard' science fiction I always find myself gravitating back to his work. So many good books and stories...my favourites are 'Rendezvous with Rama', 'A fall of moondust' and the 'White Hart stories'. With 'Meeting with Medusa' thrown in for good measure.

Frankly I was surprised he was still alive since he was 'old' when he was collaborating with Kubrick on '2001'. Now I feel old too.

I enjoyed his writings when I was a kid.
may he rest in peace.
