the major shortcoming in the mechanical slide carbs is that you can't whack open the throttle the way you can with CVs.  The benefit, however, is that you don't get pinholes in the diaphragms.
Small correction - on CB650 CV carbs you don't have the diaphragms - there's aluminium piston that fits well, soo.... I don't see any cons with CB650 CV carbs then...  ;D ;D

it's been awhile since i've posted on here, what with work, school, moving to a new apartment and all. i'm trying to get my baby (1982 CB650SC) back on the road but i'm having a helluva time finding the parts i need. my biggest issue now is getting the carbs working. i'm not worried about rekitting them but i am worried about some damage i see on the outside, weak springs and some bent plates. anybody have some advice on how to go about messing with these or some pics of what they're supposed to look like so i can work some metal if needed?

Whoa, what tank is on there?  Did you have to cut/reweld the frame, because mine doesn't look like that.

Or did you cheat and use a '79?

Which leads us to my question:

What other tanks can you mount on a 1982 CB650SC?

Or is my question out of order?  ???

Lee : I haven't found any tanks that will fit the 82 Nighthawk without reworking something  :(
Because of that mounting tab for the side covers on the tank, seems to be a one year thing for the 650 ?

griff : looks good so far, can't wait to see the seat , how hard was it to fit the tank?

That looks like a '79 CB750 tank to me.

It's a 77 or 78 cb750F tank, correct me if I'm wrong. Picked it up for $25 and it fits like a glove. No mods at all, bolts right up. This is a 1980 cb650. Just trying to decide whether or not to buy a pre-made seat/cowl or fabricate something. I would love to fabricate one but never did anything with sheet metal or fibre-glass....I'm def open for suggestions....

*gasp!* beautiful! If you repaint the motor, file the fins or something, just cuz on these bikes all-black starts to look kinda 'gloopy'- one thing blends into the next.  I really like the seat on it, where's that from?

I like to be incognito. I'm stealth on my journeys at night besides my Green reflective vest. I painted because the PO was shot and had this thing looking jacked.

What seat? The King and Queen? It's for sale...or trade. That seat is mint....I was thinking of cutting it up to mold my cafe seat....Any takers before the seat gets it! :o

And expensive, like $100 per carb here in New Zealand. :o
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Sorry... not a whole lot of help here....
But I might have a few pics but I no longer have the bike I put them on.

If you can wait until next Friday when I get paid I'll take it.  I'll just remove the brackets from my current seat and stick 'em on there.  If not I understand.
