I hate cb650 carbs.....
All of 'em except those VB44D's I got out of canada once.
They had screw in slow jets, MUCH easier to get cleaned properly.

Have you checked your #3 has gas in the bowl?
??Possibly a stuck shut float?? Good luck.

Ever wanna change carbs there are quite a few posts on the subject by me and others that have done the swap.
There are some fairly straightforward options for both the CV and the older mechanical heads.
More possibilities open up with the right  carb isolators.

Here is my 1979 CB650. Bought with 4,440 miles. needs some minor nickel and
dime work. (hopefully thats all) I ordered tires, spitfires 110/90 19 and a 130/90 17.
So far I will need to do the oil seals in the fork. I am not looking forward to doing that.

Here is a pic.

bare minimum with that few miles on it (and it's BEAUTIFUL!)  you want to change all the fluids and flush the brake lines really well, even replace them just because the lines crack and stretch and do weird stuff... and then new tires, too.  So yeah, nickel and dime stuff.  Go to a bike shop and get a nice teflon lube and do your clutch and throttle cables, you'll thank yourself later. :D

suuuuuch a beautiful bike... I love those exhausts, too... and it's so CLEAN! oooohhhh :D :D :D gonna sit and drool for awhile...;D

I couldn't get a 110/90 to fit on my front; it would rub on the fender. My bike runs a 100/90 on the front (my '79 is just like yours, though not nearly as nice).

A couple more pics.. Ill take some more later.

I wouldnt be truthful if I said it was perfect. pretty much all the chrome has some pitting,
especially the front fender. The frame has some surface rust, a fork is leaking, and the engine
covers really need a polishing. The brakes were flushed, the carbs cleaned and synched, chain
and clutch were adjusted. Tires are first on the list, and have been ordered today. I got Spitfires.
100/90h19 and the rear is a 130/90h17.

I want to replace the exhaust, but there really are no great options. I want a meaner looking
and sounding one.

Look up Marshall Deeptones. They look way hot. Lazer-exhausts has them on sale right now. I'm really thinking about it myself.

Check out some pics here... http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=54018.0

Try Mac 4-1's. Or look up Motad but I don't think they make one for the 650's.

keep your originals, though. Your bike is so beautifully stock that it would be a shame to let all those great parts scatter to the winds.

I agree with Kit, keep hold of those stock pipes.

I had a Laser on my 650 back in the mid 80's. Lovely sound to it. Header pipes looked a bit odd for my taste but at least I could get at the oil filter without taking the pipes off, kept the main stand as well.

It's still a damn nice bike and thanks for the pics ;D

I would probably keep the stock pipes, But for some reason, I dont think they would ever make it back on the bike.
The chrome is pretty much pitted up pretty bad. Not so much with the rust, but rough spots all over it .  Maybe I
can polish it out. I like johnney5's homemade exhaust pipe seen here :

I'll make my 82 CB650SC official.  I had originally planned to part this out.  Now that I have it apart, I think I'm going to clean it up and put it back together.  I just got the correct front wheel to make it complete.  I'm not really crazy about this bike, it's a little too sporty looking for me.  I did recently acquire a welder, but I'm afraid of biting off more than I can chew by modifying the frame.  I'm a complete novice but I figure what better way to learn?

Here's my '82 CB650SC Nighthawk. It's still quite dirty, but once I clean it up, and get a new seat it should look pretty nice.

Yeah, for the same price I paid for this one, I could have gotten an '83 that needed a new head and headgasket instead of the one that needed a carb clean. I decided on the '82 because I didn't like the idea of having square gauges.

Kinda sorry I sold my 82 now, had an awesome amount of power and those CV carbs just open up when you flick the throttle.

Hey guys, new around here.  Bought my first bike in 13 years after having sold my last one for various reasons - and having not been able to buy one, once again for various reasons, since then.

1980 CB650 Custom.  Outwardly in great condition, only 13,000 original miles on the bike, and 3,000 of those were the original owner riding it up from Texas.

1979 Front brake Caliper.. Options?

Ok.. Im pretty sure my front caliper is dragging the rotor. I used that shim from the tool kit
and tried to get it between the caliper and rotor to no avail. when brake is disengaged, it's not
disengaging.

The wheel spins but there is a constant shushing noise.

Got any solutions?
Are other calipers swappable for the 79 cb650?

BEAUTIFUL!  Damn, where was I when all these gorgeous 650s were getting sold?!

Well, remember I said "outwardly" it is in great condition.  She needed a new battery, one of the plugs wasn't firing - needed to cut one of the plug wires back, the spark plugs had a lot of carbon fouling, still had the factory original air filter - obviously that needed to be replaced, the carbs were gummed up, thick pieces of rust in the tank, fuel line was torn, choke cable was broke, and she's leaking oil.  Not that I'm worried about that, it's an old bike, they leak oil.

Besides, as long as I use the center stand it doesn't leak.
