Nothing wrong with THAT one, that I can see. 8) ;) Just for myself, I'm not sure about the square headlight though. My GPZ has one, but I don't have much choice on THAT one, unless I want to change the fairing. ::)

I dunno man, he didn't even put hand grips on it...  ;D

Shh! I'll hear none of that dismissive speech! It's so hawt it doesn't NEED grips.  The rider is held on by the sheer velcro-like force of gravitation between the sexy machine and its rider's knees.

Or, knowing by personal experience how fast these 650s can roll, he probably took off like a rocket one time and pulled the grips right off of the handlebars just trying to stay on the bike.

I like that version better.  ;D :D

:D ::)  I can SEE this conversation going on FOREVER!!!! ;D Makes me wonder just how creative you two can get? ;)  Fact is, I was just so taken about the look of the bike, I didn't even notice missing grips. ::)

                                        Take care, Bill ;)

Hi all, not been on this site for a loooong time, but thanks to Bill for putting my bike up for BOTM. It's a 1979 650Z, UK model, and yes if you look close there are a few jobs need finishing, but it was the first time the tank had been fitted in about 3 years so I couldn't resist the pics even with bits left to do.

Full build story is in my sig, along with about 500 photo's. Enjoy...

regards, Phil

As I couldn't resist putting your bike in for BOTM Phil. ;) Your 650 is an inspiration that should help put more emphasis on the 650 as a viable SOHC4 bike, to those who haven't considered one. ;)

I'm pretty sure people are voting.  :P

Now that Kit bought a CL350 last night, we need to make some room in the garage. It's just too full. We've officially decided that my 650 is a parts bike. She will choose what she should keep for herself and the rest will go for sale. I'm not sure when that will happen, but we will post it here 1st for you guys who may need some stuff.  ;)

Shame to be giving up the 650, but you do what you gotta do, right? :-\ Not sure what I might need, if anything, but good to know, Thanks. ;)

Okay, I am going to ask a very silly question. I'm pulling the spark plugs on my 650 (80' CB650C) and I am having one heck of a time trying to get to the middle 2 plugs. Now, I have all sorts of tools and just can not seem to get a plug wrench in there and down far enough to bring out those 2 plugs! Seems like I saw somewhere that the plug wrench from the tool kit, is what a person needs and I don't have one of those. I even bought a cheap set of deep sockets to see about modifying one to use and that didn't work either. I KNOW that there is a way AND it's probably right under my nose. I just can't believe that I have to seek some input on this. Here I've done all kinds of maintenance on all kinds of vehicles and equipment over the years and I am slowed up by the removal of spark plugs. So, what is the answer? :-\

your best buddy in the whole world is going to be an 18mm spark plug socket.  It kinda has to be specifically a plug socket, because the top edges of a regular socket hit against the valve cover.    What also works is to stick the socket down onto the plug, make sure it's on there good, THEN attach your 2ish" extension, then your ratchet.  but any way you do it it's a pita. that's why I went to iridiums.  In theory they won't foul as easily.

Well, THAT'S one tool I don't have as of yet. I tried about everything else, including a regular 18mm deep one, but with no results. I got frustrated and put it aside for a bit. I'll have to get one of those sockets and finish it up. Definitely don't want to have to be replacing plugs any more than necessary, so I'll be checking into THOSE plugs as well.  I appreciate the input Kit. After I get this one running good and smooth, I'll be looking to do a repaint and have to decide where I want to go with that.
At the present, I don't have ANY idea what color(s) or scheme that I want to do. ::) Probably just need to sit down, look the bike over and try to picture it in my mind AND do some searching of others. I'm not doing a restoration, so those colors are out. Right now, I'm thinking a red or maybe a blue. But by the time I end up doing it, there's no telling just WHAT color it will end up being. ??? Think I'll check the 650s in the gallery for starters.

                                          Thanks again,  Bill ;)

Bill, you might get lucky with another Honda one from the same era. I got one from a CX500 in the hope it would do the job and it works a treat.

That might help if you spread the search to other models. Should find one on ebay if you search.

+1 but sometimes they're a PITA to find. I figured if he needed instant gratification, he could get that at the nearest hardware store.  but yeah, I bought one of the orig. tools and it makes plug changing much easier.

And I do appreciate ALL of the input I have received too. Especially yours, Kit, in thinking I was needing it soon. Thing is, IF I had the tool NOW, I COULD go ahead and take care of that part, but, I'm not in too much of a hurry, not yet anyway. The temps are up some, but rain is scheduled in now and who knows how long that will last (if it comes) and how long the warmer temps will be around. ::) Of course it WOULD be nice to have things lined out for WHEN the weather is permitting riding. At any rate, I DO appreciate ALL input here and thank you ALL for it! 8) ;)

Very few tool kits seem to make it beyond the second or third owner.

I guess I'm guilty myself, as I still have a couple of Honda spanners from an SL125 I had about 30 years ago. If I buy any car or bike that doesn't have tools it's probably pay-back for me hangning onto those ones...

I was sad to hear of his passing AND, at the time, I came to realize just HOW involved he was in the actual 650 forums. Seems to me that he left quite a legacy.

Well, the temps kinda rise and fall, at will. Then, when the temps are pretty nice, next thing ya know, in comes the rain. ::) I'm not getting the CBX out, unless the weather's nice. Takes too much time to get THAT one cleaned up again. Now, when I get the durable 650 lined out completely, I'll be doing more outings on it. ;) I WILL check out your ride thread too. :)
