Ok, I'm in. A few years ago I tried to register here, but it never seemed to work!
Anyway, my 79 sat in an outdoor pen after being traded in and just rusted there for a few years 'til I decided I needed a project. It was the typically un-inspiring black and marroon paint job with the awful buckhorn handlebars and KG backrest you usually see rusted to a fence somewhere. 50 bucks later I decided to make it my own with a fresh paint job a lot of spit and polish, lowered the front end slightly,(scavenged from an 81 650c for the dual calipers and air dampers) GP touring bars with barend mirrors and a cafe fairing, and ended up with what you see here. A perfectly reliable and sporty ride for my 35 mile kamikaze commute. I resurected a "rusted to the fence" 72 CB500k at the same time, in the same style, for my wife, and we rode the both of them on our honeymoon to the Honda Hoot in Asheville back in 2000. Did the Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive the whole way down.
It is the 8th out of 14 bikes I've owned (all Hondas but 2) and the most ridden out of the 9 I still own. They are true gems. Under rated and little sought out, the 79s are usually real bargains when you find one, and it doesn't take much to make a real twisty tourer out of one. Faster, and not as gentle and predictable as the 500, but not so tall and unforgiving as the 750, I've found it to be a perfect blend of sport and reliability that will always have a place in my garage.
