Guess I get to join the club since I picked this up a few months back.

1981 CB650C.  Been messing with it.  Not sure what the future holds...

hehe, yeah the king & queen is comfortable but it really doesn't look right.  I'm making a cafeish seat for it, but life has been getting in the way big time so I haven't made much progress on it.

hi guys just picked this guy up for 400$ in good running condition!

its a 79.  i think its a standard? or is it a custom? i don't really know much about 650s.  can anyone tell me the differences in the frame between a custom and a standard? i wish it looked more like my 550 with straighter lines. is that all a matter of changing tanks and seat? what tanks fit? 550?

my plan is to put on 750 carbs for easier tuning... gotta read up on that because i don't know what year or kind of 750 carbs to look for. will a header and muffler from 1980 CB650 fit on my bike? (MAC)

so many questions.

I can't say much about the frame, it has the stance of a Custom, but I can tell you that those are CV carbs which were used '81 on.

Kit, you out there?  She knows a bit about these bikes.

I'll add you to the list as a ?? CB650?

Then 1972 CL175

Howdee bruisedlee, two things I can tell you, any 650 pipes will fit any 650 no matter what the year.
That doesn't hold true for carbs though so your heads will only fit CV carbs not the older mechanical ones.
Ask Manjisan about fitting 750 carbs to a 650, tuning might be simpler but you have to rejet and use pod filters and a year down the track he is still fiddling with them...I'd stay stock if I was you.
These carbs work perfectly well when balanced and clean inside.
Nice score on the bike, that would be a $2k bike here in New Zealand, personally I like the rake of the custom 650, almost a chopper but without the stupid seating/riding/pegs arrangement.

                                                                                            Cheers.....Hush.

I will say it is a 81/2 standard model.   The title might have been used from a 79.  The 79 is way diff.   Looks good for $400.   I know a couple of my vehicles are diff than what the title says.

oh realllly.  hmmmm.  what got my interest in this bike other it being a good deal for 400$ was that some day it might become a parts bike for my 550 (read about the 550 big bore with 650 head).  what are differences between '81 head and '79 head?

so I have to stay with CV carbs?  can i swap on 750 mechanical carbs? what year 750 carbs? i can take additional pictures.

i also have to read up on CV carbs.  if this head ends up not being able to fit on my 550 like the write up, i should just keep it on and keep the CV carbs as long as i can rejet it like normal carbs.

carb spacing is the diff.   Soos thread has all the things to do to mak diff carbs work.  The CV carbs you have are more forgiving to jetting.

The bike looks like a standard '81/82 from the style and the carbs. Did you check the title to the frame before you bought it? It's not a '79 frame or engine. I'm not sure what your title is to.

the good news is... the cam is the same from the '79-82 CB650s including the '82 nighthawk.  :)

Sell your parts on here. Plenty of 650 owners need stuff.
1969 CL350 Scrambler... almost done!!! Well, until something else goes wrong. :)
2006 HD 883 Sportster, stock. No use changing it, it's still gonna be a Harley.

Should be on the neck of the frame.  Along with the year.   550 had a diff drive ratio.

Just FYI my 650 has been running great all summer, put on almost 2k miles with absolutely no issues (hence why I'm not posting much, nothing broken!).

And not to be a douche, but it's hybrid, not highbred.  Just bugs me is all...

Well I must admit I have had yet another good year this year!
My ninja carbs are doing well still.  Can't wait until riding season is pretty much over!!
Planning on going from 61mm pistons to 62mm pistons, and replacing the stocker 650 cam as well.

Oh, for that list I don't think MMICAFE still has his '79 cb650 anymore.
(could be wrong though, relying on my memory....d'uh what was I doing)

Hoping everyone has a nice end (or beginning depending on hemisphere you occupy) of the riding season!
