Wow! That bike looks great. What model 650 is that? Don't think i've ever seen one quite like that. Those side covers look different than any i've seen.

It's a European model. He's in the U.K. and I think is a 1979' CB650Z. Not sure about the actual model, except that it IS a European version. Great Looking Bike, eh?

I thought it was a pretty cool build myself. I have even put in a nomination for Jan BOTM, but no one seems to have noticed it. They are ALL talking about the others that have been nominated and some that they think should be. I don't get it, it's as if they can't even se the photo. The bike belongs to pae. Here's more of it. BOTM or not?

Shh! I'll hear none of that dismissive speech! It's so hawt it doesn't NEED grips. The rider is held on by the sheer velcro-like force of gravitation between the sexy machine and its rider's knees.

Or, knowing by personal experience how fast these 650s can roll, he probably took off like a rocket one time and pulled the grips right off of the handlebars just trying to stay on the bike.

I like that version better.

Makes me wonder just how creative you two can get?

Fact is, I was just so taken about the look of the bike, I didn't even notice missing grips.

Okay folks, I'm trying to get lined out to do some building on the 80' CB650C that I picked up on a little while back. I HAVE posted in the SOHC forums as well, looking for any ideas. I'm NOT planning on a major redo on this. I mainly want to get away from the P.O.'s look that HE had going. If you remember, this is what it looked like when I got it:

Since then, I've remover the rear portion of that "make shift" seat, the windshield and the backrest. Leaves it looking like this:

Since that photo was taken, I've replace the seat and gauges with original items. Getting ready to slightly "Bob" the rear fender and replace that funky tail light with the Lucas style one that I already have. I'd like to get a different gas tank, but will at least trim the sidecover mount tabs off of this one (as Kit suggested). I'd like to swap out the headlight with one smaller like the CL350or CL450 items. It just looks too "Bug Eyed" to me.

Ideas? Remember though, I'm not looking to do a complete makeover or major modifications. Still undecided on paint color or scheme.

Big improvement Bill, a bit of colour for the tank and side covers and you will have a great looking ride.
I'm a big fan of flamed tanks.....am I showing my age???

I could see black on top 1/2, silver on the bottom 1/2 of that tank. Follow the line of the tank, scalloped a bit. I would definitely take that seat off. I would leave that sized light but go with a better bulb setup. Those things suck. Turn signals would be good.

Yeah, definitely needs different paint. And about the Flames, I remember them quite well AND have seen some that really top things off quite nicely.

Not sure if that's the way I want to go though. Have to look into that.

I will have to do some checking on the tank thing, sounds good, but I'm not sure yet. THAT seat is off already and a stock seat is in it's place, for now at least. I AM rhinking that if I leave the headlight, I'm gonna see about lowering it a little and definitely improve the lighting. I probably DO need signals, just not sure about how and where to put them. I really don't care for the stock ones. Too big, in MY opinion. I'll be open for any suggestions. Thank you for yours too!

BTW, about the turn signal thing, has anyone here done anything like a beeper to remind you to turn them off? That is ONE problem I have with having turn signals. Nothing TOO loud mind you.

Didn't the early years of the cb750 have a turn signal buzzer?

Mabey you could snag one of those and figure a way to connect it to a cb650 wiring harness?

Wonder if you can still buy those beepers?
Try fitting crashbars on the bike Bill, then you can mount anything from a 30 calibre machine gun (sometimes I wish I had one of those on my bike) to a nice set of blinkers or riding lights.
We don't get many bikes with riding lights in NZ but I think they are a damned good idea, gives the tin tops a reminder that you are there.

Be careful adding lights to these bikes. There's not much left on the charging systems unless you put in some newer stuff. The R/R from the Oregon guy charges just above idle. Unlike the original equipment that starts charging at high rpms. It made a big difference on Kit's 650.

I'm not sure what they use but my HD has self canceling signals. Maybe there is something aftermarket out there to do that. Or put in brighter indicator lights in your display.

Hey Mickey, speaking of those R/Rs, how much do they go for? I'm sure that it'll need all the help it can get.

Don't know of any Aftermarket Self Canceling turn signal kit out there, but I don't know everything either (so anything's possible, I guess).
Bout the only changes I might make in the way of lighting, might be a better headlight setup (halogen). As for the beeper, might be able to find a beeper at an automotive store and then, have to figure how to wire it in. If no one has any input on the wiring thing, might pose the question to Mark (HondaMan) and see if he had any insight on that.

In the meantime, I'm sure hoping that pae's 650 can pull off the BOTM win. Sure would be good for Him AND the 650.
